RM6800 and Denon AVR-886

Hey everyone, I'm new here and have a question regarding the setup of my new home theater, more specifically, the subwoofer.
I currently have my sub hooked up the polk recommended way, through the front speakers with the speaker set to "large" and sub to "off" on the reciever, but this setup isn't putting out very much bass. The sub just seems like another satellite with a little more depth, the low frequencies don't seem to be going through.
I've bought a Y adapter and tried to conncet the sub through the sub's preout jack on the reciever to the line in jack on the sub, but the sub just makes a loud buzzing noise.
The rest of the system sounds great -- the 6800's satellites are amazingly crisp and clear and the Denon reciever reproduces sound wonderfully -- i just can't seem to figure the sub out.
Any suggestions?

Welcome,
Have you changed the settings to small and sub on? try with out the Y cable.
On the "polk method" maybe you have mixed up a polarity or two. Check your cables again. -
Thanks for the reply!
I checked the polarity and everything was wired right.
For the Y method I retried the changes and still no luck. It seems that whenever I try to insert a cable into the line in on the sub I get that loud, electronic buzzing noise, even if the cable isn't connected to anything. -
Make sure your sub is turned off the volume on the sub all the way down. PLay something then turn your sub up slowly. Is there a xover on that sub?

I think turning the sub off and turning down the volume may have been the trick!
Thanks a ton!
