scored one of these off ebay, 85.00 + 25.00 shipping. in other words, a little less than 110.00 shipped.

My plan is to swap it in for the shiva driver in my DIY 142.5l vented cabintet, hey, whats the worse that can happen.

While SVS doesnt post internal volume specs, judging from its external measurements, and my box's external measurements, (and figure both boxes have a sh*tload of bracing) the internal volume cant be too far off, say within 10% of difference at the absolute worst.

based on that, I'm expecting improved results with the SVS driver over my Shiva mark IV, despite the Shiva being a solid driver in and of itself.

here's the link to the auction I won
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160015034982&sspagename=ADME:L:AAQ:US:1

anyone have any insight as to how this will turn out?

The Plus cabinets have 3/3" ports for variable tuning. Not sure how that will square with a vented cabinet. But, why not, I'd give it a shot. You can always pickup a sonotube if it doesn't work out.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

I thought about the ports. the plus has 3 3inchers, where as my box has a 4" flared port. I also figured that since you can plug some of the ports on the SVS for variable tuning, there should still be enough wiggleroom for this to fly. its just a question of where my box will fit on the tuning spectrum, since I dont have other vents to open and close.

I got the power at least, I figure a 500 watt parts express plate amp (which was overkill for the shiva) should do the plus driver quite nicely.

I'll certainly report back on the results. maybe I'll actually by a sound level meter and actually plot graphs if I'm bored and looking for something to do :DD

    well, got the driver.

openned the box, and WOW, its a big sombitch!!!

far beefier and heavier than the Shiva.
even better?, I took the SHiva out, and dropped the 12.1 in, fit like a glove. no need for the dremel etc. it was a drop in swap. wired it up, screwed in the driver,,hooked it to the 500W plate amp, and sounded effin awsome from jump street.

this was too f*ckin easy. I'm sure I need to tweak to tighten things up, but the initial results were far better than I expected. The second sub? its turned off, dont need it. this thing fills the room with authority. no bass holes that I had with the shiva, hey, its a big room.

it handled War of the Worlds at insane volumes without so much as breakin a sweat. this is where I noticed not as much the louder bass, but the tighter/DEEPER bass everyone talks about. And again, this without the second sub. blends into the other speakers seamlessly, like I dont have a sub. I am happy as a pig in sh^t here :D

Al, IF I suspect that Dharman you got has the same internal volume as my EBS allignment cabinet, you gotta get one of these 12.1's I imagine there going to be popping up all over the joint at this point. you GOTTA try this :D

I've certainly have been considering it as well.. an inexpensive upgrade that's for sure.. my Shiva has developed a rattle in it somewhere.. like the cone is loose or rubbing. very odd. i have found a work around for that.. i stuffed a tissue around the innerside of the surround. stopped the ratteling. but the Shiva will sometimes bottom out.

the SVS driver would be a step up for sure. and like your, should just be a drop in, hook up the leads and be ready to rummmble! :D i'll look for one. someone here earlier was selling the original SVS driver i think too.

PLus without the grill cover on. it's a kick-**** looking driver too. way better looking than the Shiva. ;)

    here is the end result....

    looks nice huh? ;)

while it's not louder... the SVS driver has a larger surround.. so I assume it would take more to bottom it out over the old driver. hits about the same for bass extension.
