Solid Brass spikes (Pics included)

Hey,

Thought I would share this with you. I have replaced my subwoofer rubber legs with new solid brass extruded spikes and placed the subwoofer on 24”x 24” x 1” thick marble slab. The new solid brass spikes aren’t just looking awesome, but made a huge difference in bass reproduction.

The total tip area of each spike at only 1 mm square allows the bass to be transfer in the air rather than into walls and furniture etc. There is minimal resonance of wall pictures, end table lamps and such. The bass is tighter and feeling of pure air pressure is well defined.

I have been looking for good quality spikes all over Toronto area with no luck. Some Hi-Fi establishments carried very inexpensive brass imitation spikes and wanted a fortune for it, over $100.00 CD. I have posted some pics of new spikes before and after for your looksee.

For you Canadian Polkies, if interested, here is the web link for the brass spikes http://www.oregondv.com/2150spike.htm.

IMO at $30.00 US + $9.50 US shipping (no duty) is a well worth the upgrade.

Cheers

Gator :):)

My next step will be to get some brass spikes for my speakers and sub. I am also going to try to source some granite slabs when the counter top guys come to template the kitchen I am renovating.

I think some 18" X 18" absolute black granite slabs with an eased polished edge under black speakers would look sharp. There is also a granite called Galaxy that has some mica veins for some reflection that would look good in a modern setting.

And to whom ever asked about my speakers being tippy. They are very stable with the 16" X 16" slate underneath over thick carpet with padding. I actually had some Monitor 5's on top of my RTi10's the other day and even then they were quite stable.

I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

Would spikes make a difference for a sub on a linoleum floor with a slab underneath?

Is there a spike solution for subs that don't have feet that screw off? My sub has no feet to speak of. It just dances on the floor.

Can anybody tell me what the thread size is for my SRS and 2.3tl's? Also, there is so much selection with these spikes, how does one choose a set?

All the Polk speakers I've owned have had 1/4-20 threads, including the new LSi series.

The Mye sound spikes are real nice.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I recall OregonDV offering inserts with all the spikes, unless that has changed, so break out your drill bits.

You could also use rubber washers/grommets or another similar product(e.g. DH Cones w/ Blu-Tack) to help with the subwoofer skating.

Joe here is the MYE Sound Point page. I used the center point pictured. I would think that Polk used the same size threads (1/4-20 threads) for 2.3tls as they did for the 1.2tls. I'm not sure but I wanted to show you what I use and I like them. They are actually sturdy enough that when I have to move my bigguns I have no trouble walking them on the brass points. No bending, no curling, no nothing but stiff solid spikes.

Sorbothane sheets will work also in that sobothane is natually sticky or tacky.
