AVR (pre/pro) running hot

If my AVR has been relegated to pre/pro duty, is there any reason why it should still be running hot? I know HK's generally provided their fair share of heat, but the Rotel is juicing my fronts and no other speakers are hooked up. Any ideas?
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I believe the internal amps of the HK stay on, even when using it as a pre/pro.

That would explain it to an extent. I just thought the amount of heat the amp section emits would be relative to its workload -- which in this case is zilch.

Oh well, no biggie -- it's not about to enter thermal protection mode or anything. Just curious how this thing works...

Not really worried per se. Just wondering why alleviating it's workload by adding an external amp would still have it running so hot.

mine runs warm. I guess the temp factor is all subjective.

Speaking of hot, the Sig. has a reputation for running hot. Mine doesn't even run warm. I wish I had some speakers to really push it. The amp appears to be total overkill for my setup, even with everything crossed over at 60hz.

My Rotel never broke a sweat with the monitor 70's. I wouldn't say that you could now fry an egg on it with the Arros, but it runs a lil' hot nowadays. Funny how such small speakers with a single 4 1/2" driver could require so much juice....

My receiver, which is used only as a pre/pro runs hotter than my Rotel amp, even with 5 channels cranking. If it's easy enough, I may consider shutting down the amp section of the receiver myself.

My denon was still warm er, as a pre/pro.. everything inside is still fired up.. it doesnt shut down even if it were disabled aside from being hard unwired by a person with a solder gun. if that was even possible.

I wouldnt worry about it, rest assured it's no where near the load of useing the internal amps and is safe.

My denon with the lsi's didnt even get hot and that really surprised me.
