Shaving Blows

Maybe a random thread, but Im pretty sick of doing this crap.

I apparently have the most sentive skin ever, because even using "sensitive skin" products does JACK for me. Facial hair has always annoyed me, so I shave every morning before work/class...and every morning my face always has red spots and is somehow unevenly shaved.

I was annoyed to the point where I figured that one of those Fusion razors would help a bit....but it dosent seem to get any closer than a mach 3 and dosent irritate any less. So I went out and bought an extra sensitive shaving cream and did nothing or than make me break out. Apparently my skin is so sensitve anything that touches me face makes me break out.

Guess that was just a bit of a rant and I can get onto a question.

Is there a decent electric shaver out there that gets close but wont dry out or irratate my skin? Those strips on manual razors last a total of two shaves for me so after that all hell breaks lose and Im not spending twenty bucks every month for razors anymore...so I figured maybe an electric would help me out.

Or maybe I just need to get a hobby....you'd figure I know how to shave by now or something, jeez :o

I don't know if an electric will help. I tried an electric shaver and my neck broke out like crazy, even worse than with a razor. You might have a different reaction to it though.

You are right, those strips are a waste. The Mach3 has the lubricating strip on top of the razors. I always thought that strip should at least been on the bottom. At least for some better prep.

that braun Activator is supposed to be the best one you can get, there's also a high end Norelco that's supposed to be pretty good.

I switched from electric back to standard a year ago and haven't looked back.

you could have a sensitivity to the parfums put in shaving cream/gels.

Do you wash your face and or exfoliate at all? Sometimes this will help soften the hair.
Are you against the grain or with the grain ?

Hahaha, I dont really think laser is an option. Waxing seems a bit off too.

Norelco makes a wet/dry with some kind of lotion in it......100 bucks is a little rich to just try it out though.

Waxing would be a painful experience. Just try to pluck one of your facial hairs out and see what happens..

    Willow,

I usually dont wash my face before I shave. Mostly because I shave before I shower and Ive always thought "why do it twice?"

As for exfoliate....I dont even know what you mean. Im pretty basic, shave and shower. Sometimes I dont even comb my hair. Enlighten me.

Don't shave against the grain my brotha---take it from someone who was in the Army for 15 years (clean shaven everyday) and has a heavy beard. Way less irritation. Use 'Edge" with aloe.

You're supposed to wash your face before you shave...

I had the same issues as you do. Go get yourself the Nivea Sensitive Skin face wash, shaving gel, and after shave balm. Wash your face before you shave, shave IN the shower, balm afterwards...

I can pretty much guarantee you that method will take care of you. If it doesn't, then you're just screwed...

Hahaha, this is a great thread.

Ill take the nivea stuff into consideration.

But shaving in the shower.....that just throws me off. I need a mirror man. I already miss spots sometimes and that would just make me look like a giant ****. But hey, I might as well try it considering nothing else seems to be working. The neck irritation is just getting old.

Steve, shaving with the grain never gets close at all for me. Even with a new blade its not close at all. Ive gotten it the best with less irration on the 'cheek area' if I go sidways. Up was the best but that was painful and straight down just hasn't cut it since I was 15.

Now that I think of it, I'm 36 and have NEVER shaved using a razor...I've always used electric..

I was never shown how to do it because by the time I was old enough to shave, my dad was never around...

where ever you are most sensitive, save that(those) spot(s) for last.
I don't shave in the shower, but I wash my face before I shave and I use a face brush. 2 reasons, I can't stand the feel of my coarse hair against my palms and that the brush helps soften the hair.

I use an electric AND I have a beard. The electric is just for trimming. My neck is pretty senstive. I don't mind stubble and I hate to shave!

I was just joking on the waxing. :p

I use a manual razor, and sometimes a straight edge. The electricts don't worth a crap on my stubble. Of course I grow beards and such from time to time as well.

I think electrics only work on certain kinds of faces. :)

    The Picasso of shaving perhaps.

I have started 2 threads on shaving, I have coarse hair and sensitive skin. I have tried electric, pardon the pun but it just don't cut it ! went back to blades.
My Current shaving set up is:
    Fusion blades
Fusion for sensitive skin shaving gel
    a Body shop face brush
Yves Rocher face care line cleansing gel, toner and moisturizer.

I have the same problem. I actually have a full beard now, just to save $ on razors, but still have to edge the beard so I dont look like a hobo.

when I full shaved, I used Barbasol. just regular barbasol, and had great results. I'll put the edge gel steve mentioned in second place. if you havenet tried the barbasol, do so.

dont even think of the electric route, will fly like a lead blimp, even with the real good ones (and quality would make a dirrefence in this case)

dont laugh, but try some women's razers, I swear they are smoother and less harsh then the mens. The mach 3 for chicks, (the Venus) works friggin awesome. gotta be REALLY secure in your manhood though...LOL. When you see how much it works better, youll be hooked

if barbasol is even too rough, only way your getting smoother is Cocoa butter, but your an oily mess after you shave, really gotta clean it off good in the shower.

Add me to the "I hate shaving list." Early in our relationship, my girlfriend said that I looked cute with stubble. That was the happiest day of my life. I now shave once a week, and I don't look back :-)

Electrics are worthless. They work on people who have peach fuzzy facial hair, and that's it. I look like some sort of bad art experiment no matter what kind of electric I use, not to mention all of the razor burn.

As for shaving, I personally shave after I shower, cuz I just could never get into the shaving IN the shower thing. But after vs before is a WORLD of difference. Your skin is so much more moisturized just being in the water. Trust me, this will make almost all of your problems go away.

And if not, grow a beard :D
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Well hot damn, this has actually helped.

I never really thought about how it would help to shower FIRST.

I also found a nice article on msnbc about wet-shaving (aka the old way our daddies did it)

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6886845/

The also link to a site that sells higher end shaving stuff. Might want to check that out.

And Willow, where could I get a decent face brush? Im a walmart and target kind of guy so I dont really know all that much.

I just hang a $5 mirror in my shower, easy-peasy-japaneasy. I have a short beard, but have to trim around it every morning, and shave my neck as well. I use a Gillette sensor excel and edge w/aloe. Shaving with the grain doesn't get as close, but it sure saves on irritation and in-grown whiskers.

everyone bashes electrics, but if you are going to try one I recommend the Braun Activator. I do not have thick facial hair so maybe that's why it works so well for me. I've tried the Norelco rotary ones, even the one with lotion, and they sucked really bad. The Braun is way better. Closer and with much less irritation because you don't need to press hard.

Anyways, I've been using it for about a year now and the best thing is I only spend about $5 every other month on shaving supplies--> the self cleaning cartridges.

they do sell one at Walyworld, if I remember it's in the women's section where their face care is.
