I was wondering what benefits they provide if your using a sub. For example the Rti-10's. Are they strictly if you want to listen them 2-channel without a sub?
Setup:

They fill in the frequencies between the lowest tweeter tone and the highest sub tone. -
While the 545 is a great amp. IMO its not enough to really get two 8" woofers going...
300 watts is about the min, IMO.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Back in the "olden days" when 2-channel ruled, and a SUB was a sandwich, real speakers had woofers.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

4 - 8" woofers can move alot of air...
But it takes a real set of woofers and a real amp to do it.
The RTi line isnt exactly a powerhouse series by any means. It does what it does and does it within reason.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

And they still do!!!Political Correctness'.........defined

Well... because movies and music require midbass. That way when a gunshot goes off or drums are a-rockin', you feel the punch from it. Typically a lot of those sounds are not sub frequencies. You want a full sound so you get a full speaker. Done!Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.
Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -
Let's take the LSi15 for example. Is that why it has the 8" sub in it, to provide a more fuller sound?Don't forget to look at My Home Theater
Receiver - Onkyo TX-SR503
Fronts - Polk Audio Monitor 40
Center - Polk Audio CS1
Surrounds - Paradigm Cinema ADP
Subwoofer - Velodyne VRP-1200 -
After watching Munich with the Lsi7's/sub I was hoping the sub was going to give that effect like the 10's did. The sub helped a lot, but didn't have the thump when bomb's and shots were fired. So I'm going back to the 10's for HT. Thanks for the infoSetup:

There is NO substitute for radiating surface area and a real man's amp.
Also, if you have a comptently designed amp and you aren't trying to drive either a pair of original Carver Amazings or Apogee Scintilla's the belief that you need hundreds of watts of power is largely not true.
Anyone who doubts this, come listen to my AR9's and my 75wpc tube amp.

But you're talking about a Tube amp vs. a SS amp, it's not apple to apple too me.

Maybe, but the theory is still the same. I've heard big SDA's powered to earsplitting level, very competently by a little NAD 20wpc integrated or 50-60wpc rotel.

Watts is Watts, only difference is how they clip.
BDT, I know 40W wasn't enough for the mags, they should be added to the "abuse amps" section. but I do agree whole heartedly on the point. The SDA1-B's that I had would be deafening at about 4W sustained and 20W transients (based off of carver analog meters)There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Now if we can just break people out of the biamping kick and get them to buy Man's amps instead...There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. I prefer a Full Range speaker cause I think the sound is more coherent.
Nothing wrong with a sub to supplement sound. I think the more woofers you have the better cause it takes a lot air pumping to reproduce good sounding lows. If I had the money, I'd buy Legacy Whispers.
