Good subwoofer for Monitor 30's?

I am about to give my dad my old Polk PSW10 sub and would like to get something a little better. I currently am just running Polk Monitor 30 bookshelf speakers for my fronts (2.1 system) and would like to spend no more than $300. I was looking at the Mirage S8 and the Athena P4000 but I don't know if either would be a good match with my speakers. Thanks in advance!

The Mirage S8 is an excellent sub for the price. Amazing amount of output for an 8 inch sub, and very clean. Can be had for under $200 shipped.
But everyone will keep reccommending SVS, even though it is clearly out of the price range you mentioned, and more than double the price of both subs listed. -
Yes, we will...
Because sometimes some stuff is worth it.
This guy will be back in no time asking what he needs to get next...
Well SVS is kind of -next-- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I think William's right. Buy a sub that's not overkill for your entry-level Monitors.
Then, if you ever upgrade, your speakers should come first, not the sub. imo. -
I've been thinking about trying an onix x-sub with my Monitor 30's:
