Hi! new to the forums
Hi guys, I'm new to the forums and a recent Polk Audio fan. The past couple of months, Ive slowly tried to upgrade my HT system.. finally got rid of my 5-year old KLH 5.1 set (ewwww)... but since i was given a very limited budget, I got my new used speakers locally:
2xPolk RT800 Floor speakers (Bi-wired Fronts, got for $150/pair)
2xKEF Q80 Floor speakers (Rear Surrounds, $100/pair)
Technics SA-DA8 5.1 Receiver (didn't change yet)
Sony DVP-NC685V DVD/SACD changer ($69 refurbished)
Two subwoofers in parallel: Athena AS-P4000 ($149 from amazon) + KLH 10" Sub 100W (my old sub)
I used a Cerwin Vega E-76C for my center channel which I got used from ebay, but ended up reselling it at a $35 loss (after the auction ended LOL) since it didn't match my front speakers. That's 1 big lesson I learned there, always match your front speakers with your center.
Anyway, now I'm in the market for a CS400 or 300 Center, if anyone has one for sale, PM me... I don't have much of a budget though. By the way, what do you guys think of the SA-DA8 receiver? I'm thinking of upgrading it... but ever since I hooked up the newly acquired speakers and the Sony DVD changer via the 5.1 composite audio inputs, man, the sound is soo much better and just blows everything else out of the water compared to other setups from my friends. I have a bigger-than-average living room and I carefully placed the speakers in strategic corners to get the best possible soundstage... I couldn't be any happier. I'm still debating if I should change my current receiver... Now that my wife is starting to appreciate the "upgrades" I've put together, I hope she'll allow me to increase my budget for additional A/V gear hehe.

Welcome Tip.....we're always willing to help....
I have a 400 that I got as part of a package deal, but it has some scratches on it that I haven't tried to do anything with (will upload a pic in a few).
Also, you might want to put your location in your profile so people know where you are geographically to let you know about potential deals in your area.comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Welcome.. enjoy your stay.. and thanks for flying Polk Airlines. The temp is a breezy 82 degrees.
Please wait for the airplane to come to a COMPLETE stop before unbuckeling your seatbelts.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

hehe, thanks for the warm welcomes guys. :-) I saw an auction yesterday from ebay for a CS245i at a reasonable buyitnow price, so I snagged it. Hopefully it'll be a good match for the RT800s... I tried PMng someone who was selling CS400, but didn't get a reply, so I guess he already sold it. I just hope I won't be disappointed by the 245i, oh well, I can always resell it haha.
Anyway, I live in the Central Valley CA (Fresno area)... going to update my profile to show it. I'll be around and hello to all of you again :-)My system:

Wow, did you snag a 245i for $52 + shipping? Congrats, if you got that one! That's unfortunate for me, as I'm going to be looking to sell mine as soon as I receive the CS400i from francis1967 and I'd hoped I'd be able to get more.Main Rig

Yeah, I got it about $70 including shipping. So, what do you think of the 245i? Should I have waited to get a cs400 or 300 instead? I'm a little concerned if it will not be a good balance (power-wise) for the RT800s... then again, I could just increase (or decrease) the center level output on the receiver/dvd preamp. hmmm...My system:

I've had my 245i for years and love it. I recently picked up a 5 channel amp, so since I can now drive the 400i, I'm going to give it a shot. I think you got a great deal on a very nice speaker.
From what I know, the 245i will be darn close to matched with the RT800s. I guess the PERFECT match is the 400, but I suspect you'll find that the 245i blends well.Main Rig

Ohh good to know, thanks for the input. Reason why I was hesitating is that I read a couple of professional reviews for the RT800s, and they always matched it with the CS400. But if they use the same tweeter types, then I guess they should have tonal balance. I'd love to get a CS400, though they will cost about $70-100 more for a used one compared to the 245i.My system:

Welcome to club polk. With the above statement, I suggest you purchase some movies and never come back here. If you do - all future money will go twords audio upgrades and you will never be satisfied with your system again.
That being said - if you choose to stay,
Welcome..

Tip,
Please let me add my Welcome to CP to the others. You asked about your Technics. Well, I used some of their gear a while ago and it was OK for HT, there are certainly better receivers, since you are enjoying music on SACD I suspect some upgrade in this area will please you.
BTW, I would register with yourmusic.com the MG disc you got is available there for 5.99 including ship, they have a number of SACD available not a huge selection but many of us get some from this site. Do a search on SACD, they have Elton John, Heart, SRV, Clapton along with others.

Welcome.....
