I just sold a laptop on ebay for $810 with shipping and it went to a guy with 100% feedback (17). It said he sent payment, then it was cancelled so I wrote to him asking what was up. Check out the two replies I got off him:

i cancelled da first payment because i forgot i had to use my credit card for this one.. under payment it says dat it was sent to u but it is unclaimed... but it does say dat i sent payment da second time i did it and dat it is pending payment through paypal, any idea on wat dat means??

i remeberred dat i had to use a credit card for this payment, so i canceled da first one n used da card.. i checked n it says dat da payment was sent already n dat in Status under paypal it says dat payment is unclaimed... n under my ebay it is dat payment is pending under paypal, im guessing u have to log into paypal n check it out der, but please get back at me quick i need this comp quick... phone # x-****-****-xxxx

Yeah...wow. I think I'm going to tell the guy that I'm not going to ship it until I get the funds from Paypal into my checking account. I don't think Paypal can withdrawl the funds from my checking account once it's in there, right? Here's the auction number if you want to take a look at it:

if he disputes paypal can at their discretion freeze your account, I really hated giving paypal my check account # so I opened one and only keep a few bucks in it, I never leave money in the paypal account. I have read alot of horror stories and it seems its the honest joe can take it in the shorts just as easily as the crook.

Have the laptop professionally packaged (at the expense of the buyer of course) and have it well documented. That way you have proof it was delivered. Insure it as well. That is if you decide to send it in the first place...I might not.

Just wait until the $ are in your account before shipping, send it with a signature required, and you're golden.

Mazeroth....if he is near me, I don't mind being the go-between. You can send the laptop to me and I won't hand it over till he pays. Or he can pay me and I'll forward the money to you.....anyway, help is available if needed.

    more like Compton.

Seriously though, it sounds like to me he's "ghettofying" his English on purpose. If the man has 100% feedback on ebay then that means he's computer literate. If he's computer literate, then that means he at the very least knows how to speak proper (business) dialogue regarding a buyer and a seller. ESPECIALLY over a transaction that cost $810.

IMO he's throwing your **** for a loop.

Thanks for the offer for help. He's located in Cali.

One thing I find strange (not really) is that when I check his (17) feedback, I click on the members that left him feedback and read the feedback he left for them (confused?). He writes PERFECTLY FINE when he's leaving feedback for others, yet he gets ghetto on muh ****. I think I'm just going to tell this guy to go F himself.

Where does one get their hands on a small lot of laptops on the cheap like that?

Let me know if you're a dealer or something because I may be in the market down the road, and I have had real good luck with HP.

    Demi,

I caught the deal of the year on these laptops through Office Depot. They had them on sale for $599 with a $200 mail in rebate. It was all over slickdeals.net and fatwallet.com. I drove 1.5 hours to the local Office Depot Sunday morning and got there when the doors opened. I put four of them on my CC and went out the door smiling. They were the Build to Order computers so I had to wait for them to get shipped. A lot of the people that ordered them (after me; I got there EARLY) got their orders cancelled, but for some strange reason mine went through. After tax I paid $442 after rebates, so I should make out $1200+ after Paypal, Ebay, and shipping fees :D

Paypal can withdrawal funds from your checking account if something happens and they decide it's a fraud. The only way to really be sure with paypal is to transfer it into your checking account and wait a month or so until it goes beyond the time to report fraud. That or immediately close your checking account.

Also, for those who get checking accounts with only a few $ in them, remember, Paypal cacn still withdrawl funds from and make you go negative which may give you bad credit if it remains unpaid.

as for how much time i've spent in Compton? None. And sorry but FYI, I don't watch rap videos either so you're assumption of my disillusionment of that city doesn't hold water. But I did do a semester's worth of research and a tough paper on urban gang violence which included cities as Compton/LA, Chicago and NYC. (Edit: that would almost make a good Geico commercial :p )

Oh give me a break. The place has become the mecca for the entire criminal culture. Ever since NWA came out with "Straight Outta Compton" the name has been synonymous with that whole sociopathic ideal. It's the butt of a joke, and it always will be. They may have cleaned up, or never been as bad as they've gotten a reputation for (doubtful), but it doesn't change the fact that they got the reputation, and there's PROBABLY a reason. Just because it's un-PC to label a place doesn't make it incorrect.

    Thanks for the heads up.

As I said an honest guy can get jammed by Paypal. Paypal does not know who's honest and who's not and they are much more interested in getting their fee. Many times the crook knows how to manipulate the system to get what they want.
