My sister is turning 21 this week. Any ideas on what a good 21st birthday gift is like? I thought jewellery but I don't know - jewellery seems a bit old now. Something new and really awe-inspiring would be great.

Besides, at 21 she shouldn't be needing any batteries...

In seriousness, depending on how much you can spend, do a wine of the month club or something like that. Make her think that she's all grown up and sophisticated, and includes the the prereq for any 21 birthday-alcohol.

gotta get her some chocolates too.. who doesn't like a nice box of chocolates?
nice expensive ones.. not the ones they sell at the grocery store.

get her a couple tickets to a upcoming concert she'd like to go to.

tickets to a wine and cheese tasting would be good too.

how about a gift card for dance lessons? What young lady wouldn't enjoy learning some new moves for the dance floor? :)

i like the spa idea too. I gave my sister in law a two hour spa treatment for her birthday last year.. she's still talking it about it almost a year later.
    PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
Vancouver, Canada Sept 30th, 2012 - Madonna concert

Pfffft....Cliff would be the expert there I suppose.

Cash and booze? If it were a guy, I'd say sure. For a sister? Go classy. A spa gift certificate (with her mom or best friend) would be a great idea. Maybe a wine tasting or some such.

When my oldest daughter turned 21, living in NJ, we took her out to Atlantic City for dinner and her first casino experience. Four years later, when my youngest daughter turned 21, we took them BOTH to Las Vegas for a week (gotta teach them to gamble RESPONSIBLY). They both enjoyed the experience and it was something that they probably wouldn't have done on their own.

Massage gift cert. Ask around for a recommended person. She will be happy and more relaxed with a women first. $60 to $80 for an hour.

Orchide plant. Try to find one that has only 2 or 4 buds blooming and the rest (up to 10 more) not blooming yet. $20 to $40, they will bloom for over a month.
