The Beer Thread

You know you've wanted it. So here it is, my one parting shot before I head off to THE BEACH and leave you wackos to your own devices (and I don't want to know anything about those devices, thank you very much) for two weeks. You better behave.
BEER FOR THE BEACH
Thank you all for the beery recommendations in another thread. Here's what I was able to find:
Entire Butt English Porter (Salopian Brewing, Shropshire, UK) -- The only import I picked up. I got it because it is made with "14 Malts," and looks to be the thickest, heaviest beer I was willing to try.
Buzzard's Bay West Porter (Buzzard's Bay, Westport, MA) --Special brew, sweet and malty without being thick.
Black Jack Porter Left Hand Brewing Co. (Longmont, Colorado) -- An excellent, un-heavy, caramel-tinged food beer.
Acme California Pale Ale (Mendocino, CA) -- Light and sweet, not bitter & hoppy.
Pyramid Pale Ale -- The only one of the many cool suggestions I could find this side of the Mississippi (and I tried the three best beer stores in the Baltimore area). Total after-beach refreshment!
You can see that I tend toward the dark sweet sub-porter, but cool refreshment is my first priority. ("Food beer" being my second priority -- last night I got home at like 9pm... Dinner? A Black Jack, baby.)
What should I look for next?
Hear that? That's the sound of the surf crashing on the sand. There it is again! And again! Ahhhhhh....
Micah!

I have had a really hard time finding this outside of the south, but if you can - check out Shiner Bock and Shiner Blonde. Great stuff. Brewed in Shiner Texas. I prefer the darker Bock myself.
Then of course there is Fat Tire and Guiness <sp?>. Another two of my favs (depending on mood). -
[sound of waves gently lapping the sand]
I saw FAT TIRE in the stores. I'll check that out soon. I like Shiner Bock, except that once a brand becomes sort of mass-produced it tends to become tasteless to me. That happened with Pete's Wicked, which I LOVED when it first arrived on the east coast. Now it's sort of bland.
Nice beer thread on the HTF, Ron! (I'm printing it out make a beer list for the summer!)

Micah, you are gonna be gone for 2 weeks? Away from the forum? Holy she-at this is gonna be fun.....
Just think of the ****, racial slurs, the shear mayhem you will miss.....
Beach Beer? How about a MHL longneck, ice-cold. Just try it, thats all I ask.....
Cheers,
RussCheck your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
Miller? Miller beer? You should probably be ostrasized for that. When was the last time a Miller beer passed the lips of Ron-P?
I think it's hilarious when I'm in a bar or brewery where they make their own beer or offer a selection of specialty brews, and guys siddle up to the bar and say, "Bud please." WHAT ARE YOU NUTS? It's like eating white bread when you have the choice of wheat, nut, barley, rye, garlic... Why would you drink Budweiser? It's like it's already been drank once.
MC -
Well, about the answer I expected from a guy 'like you'. I mean, hell, you work for POLK FREAKIN AUDIO, and you have an 'ht in a box system', and not even a mediorce 2ch rig.....
How can that be? RonP's lips? I don't care to think about another mans lips.....
If you are the beer connoisseur you THINK you are (or are attempting to be), you would give it a try, at the minimum. Don't be a beer-snob MC.... I'm willing to bet, in a pepsi-challenge scenario, you might actually think it was decent.....
Scene control Micah, scene control.
Cheers,

I am a beer snob. (And I'm running RT55s with my NAD 2-ch.) I'm an everything snob. I'm very snobby. I can't waste time with sub-par things. With few exceptions (and I make good excuses for those few exceptions) I have to always have the best possible thing available within financial reason.
So if the menu only boasts Anheiser Busch, I drink water.
MC -
MHL, PBR, Schlitz.......those are the beers that your Dad drank and his Dad.
I have a PBR every now and then for nostalgia

First, glad to hear about the 2ch, you've made no mention up to this point of it.... (maybe you could hit the 2ch forum, and break it down for us) - you know, PARTICIPATE in something audio-related?
Second, well, you are (might be) missing out my brotha, thats all I can say.... I like some of the hoity-toity speciality brews too, but can appreciate a beer done right. Miller High Life, the 'Champagne of Beers' IS done right, in my VERY humble opinion of course.....
Another subjective hobby obviously..... Here's your water (with lemon I'm sure), I'll be down at this end of the bar tieing one on with my MHL......feel free to come on down here if ya want....
Cheers,
Russ
Troy, apparently he isn't an 'auto' snob yet..... he still has a few fibers of 'common man' left.....Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -

Cheap beer is good for only one thing: Power-beering. When you what to get your beer-buss on, fast.
There are some really good suggestions in the HTF beer thread Micah. Try some and let me know what'cha think.

Okay, I take the hit for the Dodge. What can I say, cars just ain't all that important to me. At least it gets me from here... To the beach. And it has a kickass Polk Audio sound system in it, so it rocks.
I totally look forward to a long summer of trying all the beers mentioned in the HTF thread (that would be here http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77543 in case you need to check it out).

The "world beer cup"? Are you kidding? It's a frat prank. It's an marketing coup.
Obviously, it's sponsored by A-B.

AB only took home 1 award, for non-alcoholic, I thought that was funny.
Whats wrong Micah? Can't enjoy an award winning beer with the rest of us? I guess Micah views beer, like Aaron does gear. If it doesn't have a fancy label/name, and isn't rediculously priced, it MUST be 'sub-par'.

Miller High Life stays in my refrigerator, others come and go, MHL is a constant. It is multi-funtional for both power drinking and tasteful sipping. I have converted a lot of friends and neighbors to MHL.

Okay guys. I gotta play Clinton and agree with everybody on some points. I am a recovering beer snob. I love German-style lagers and hefes. I drink Guinness for dessert most nights. I've probably sampled 1000 or more different brews from all over the world and have upon occassion (when time permits) brewed my own dark lagers and ales for 10 years.
But...when you have just gotten done mowing the yard on a 95 degree day, nothing beats an ice cold High Life. I think it is the slight sweetness (you should like that Micah) that does it. Give it a chance sometime when you need to cool down. I rediscovered it 6 years ago and it has become a staple in the man fridge (although I do hide it behind the good stuff). Enjoy.system 1:

scuba tanks are cool AND handy.....
It's much easier to handle your 9mm and bitchslap your ho' with just a scuba tank than if you are trying to juggle a normal sixer.
