I normally dont hold musicians who do cover work in very high esteem, but this kid has one hell of a bright future as a drummer. He played this thing flawlessly from what I can tell, and its a fairly new song to have perfected in a few months. Not to mention Danny Carey is damn well one of the most talented drummers in the world today. This kid is doing the things that differentiate between just a regular cover of a song, and well, Danny Carey himself. Ghost notes and all.

More drum playing, less playing with hair, levels on the mixer, and mics!

Great job though. I was wondering how some of those fills were done... but now I have a visual aid to tell me (especially right at the end of the song).

haha, when I first started watching it I was laughing. I thought for sure this kid was going to suck. He looks like some rich kid that has a kit I couldn't even afford, but damn can he play....

Now, I wonder if he can do his own stuff. That's the true measure of a musician.

That was pretty good. I was admiring Danny Carey's work on the drive to work today, Jambi from 10,000 Days gets me going in the morning.

Obviously there's a difference between creating and replicating...

But the kid's still really good and has alot of potential. He's got that same seamless transition between hand and foot that Danny has.

i'd like to get Danny Carey and Mike Portnoy in a room together...that would be awesome!

Danny and Mike are definitely two of the premier drummmers in rock today, but to get to the top of the list, I believe you have to step over into the jazz arena. Anyone truly into the art of drumming should check out someone like Dennis Chambers.

Danny is also in a lot of side projects, that play in the L.A. are a lot. Pygmy Love Circus and VOLTO! being 2 of the most prominent. VOLTO! is way different than his work in Tool.

I wish I had more of Danny doing the recent stuff, but here is compared to this kid on a different track:

    <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GKidSVPGLFE"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GKidSVPGLFE&quot; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Portnoy is awesome, and they get compared a lot, but in reality it's just 2 totally different styles of drumming.

And speaking of Portnoy vs. Carey, I think Danny is a much better technical drummer. Mike is more of the showy sort... which is awesome, and I idolize him, but Danny's work blends more with the music... but DT is more or less showy with each guy and that's their style.

I wasn't really trying to compare the two, as it's apples-to-oranges IMO - was just thinking it'd be cool to have them two go at it.

I personally think that Danny plays better in a group, which is what it's really all about. I think Mike's a little better on the soloing side of things, I've never really seen that side as much from Danny.

Basically Danny is perfect for Tool and Mike is perfect for DT

Anyhow, I'll be seeing Danny in Chicago again for the 2nd time this year on Sept. 18th. Should be great, as usual.

The last time I saw Tool, Maynard stripped naked and started running around the stage...good stuff

I have issues with some of their songs from a lyrical content standpoint, but not enough to keep me from listening.

IMO Tool is the best mainstream rock band we've seen or will see for a long time.

Hey, it's not like I don't have issues with it too. It's more philosophical so much as offensive, especially as they have matured. They are clearly a much better band than they were, and they tend to stick to the line of not becoming like typical musicians. They don't go to the awards shows, and they really don't **** themselves out like so many bands do these days.

Their shows are an experience that you have to check out at some point to fully appreciate the band.

Yeah, while I still consider them somewhat mainstream, I do like the fact that they really haven't sold out like so many other groups.

sup guys, was just visiting my brother's youtube page and saw this link, and thought I would share some info on my brother (the guy in the video :) )

He's been playing just over ten years, and he does have a nice DW kit with the Paragon signature cymbals, (on this particular occasion, he has other stuff). He works extremely hard for what he has, and is just married with a youngin on the way.

we live in different states, which explains all the messing around with the mixer, we have to do seperate recording sessions which require click tracks, etc.. (Im playing the guitars/bass)

We also have some original music. We have one vid so far, a song called Energy. You'll notice he is wearing the same clothes. With a kid on the way, he has a very limited window as to when he can play. So he played vicarious first and this second. He did them in one take, and really couldn't do another take, which explains the flubs left in. I can edit them in Cubase, but the vid would look funny. Anyways check it out.

edit: Youtube makes all the audio mono, and basically like crap, here are the better mp3 (audio only) versions.

Im using a JPMM, (John Petrucci Music Man) through a XTLive, into Cubase, and use some VST plugins for enhancing it. I use a Conklin groove tools 7 string bass but I have to run it through the XTL as well cuz I don't have a bass amp right now. Im using cubase to mix the guitars and drums together.

    Peace
