Here ya go folks!

For you photography nuts...

I shot, edited and designed this one a little different. I had always shot the photo against a white or green backdrop, spent a good bit of time editing the girl out of the background then went from there. It got too tedious and time consuming!

I figured, what if I shot the girl against the color background I intended to use for the actual flyer. That way, i crop down, touch up quickly and the edges around her will be more natural and smooth.

I moved the black paper backdrop all the way back out of any light from the studio strobes. This time I shot with camera on my tripod positioned to see her from upper chest on up with side to side all blacked out.

I cropped down to the size of the flyer template, then added logo and wording. All done in about 2 1/2 hours.

BTW, she is a beautiful girl! VERY photogenic!

    I sure do! ;)

I went for a fancy magazine type look on this one. I had this other photographer/designer tell me in the past that you should never have text and/or logos carry over and cover any part of your model. I started doing that for a while, but they just didn't have the punch and look I wanted. I noticed magazine covers that do it exclusively. I thought...WOW, all these magazine designers must be doing it all wrong in his eyes. Maxum, Playboy, FHM, Vogue, etc...they all do it.

This time I said F it and tried it my way! Her face is still the center of attention which, IMO, is the important thing.

BTW, she is about 6ft tall in her dancer heels. CRAZY!!!

Looks great...just one thing, though, the 1 in $1000 for 2nd place looks like a capital I. I don't know if it's the font you're using or if it was done on purpose. Just something I noticed almost immediately.

Thanks guys for seeing that. I was wicked tired when finishing that last night. Eyes were getting HEAVY. I went back and looked and YES, something weird with the font. Changed the 1 to a different type. Also had a date correction, so i would have went over it again and again before it went out as I usually do.

This is being printed into 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 flyers. It would be way too plain without a certain amount of text. It is promoting an event, not a photo of the girl.

As far as the amount of text, I always go for the less is more philosophy. Single quick statements without alot of BS.

Thanks for the suggestions though. I used to always use full body shots and got bored with it. That style of design got old and lifeless. I'm digging deeper into Photoshop design and will see what else I can come up with.
