Anyone here a big fan of root beer? I don't think I could say I've ever been a big fan of it, but I certainly enjoy some root beer every now and then. I stumbled across Virgil's Root Beer a few years ago, and instantly fell in love with it. I only saw it at one store, and consequently only had it very seldom. I just discovered that Food Lion carries, too, though. I'm adding it to my shopping list!

Anybody else like root beer? What do you prefer? I found this write-up on Virgil's. Makes me wanna try all the other flavors, as well as that special nutmeg root beer it mentions. I bet that keg would be a lot of fun, too! :D

I'm confused as to how you go about this. I guess you could cram some ice cream in your mouth, then squirt in some root beer and swaller it all at once. Or maybe you mash up the ice cream and pour some of it into the root beer bottle. Or, wait, maybe it's the other way around.

I have to admit that I don't like licorice at all! Consequantly I hate A&W's root beer candy, which tastes just like licorice to me. I figured licorice had nothing to do with root beer, but that that's just what that candy tasted like. Well, I'll be durned if by about the fourth swallow of Virgil's I don't taste some licorice. Seems as though licorice is in root beer.

I think I can get used to it.

Hahahahahahahahaha! Drrr! I can't even begin to imagine how long it's been since I've had a float! Used to love those things! It's probably been 6 or more years. And for an 18 year old, that's a long time!

I think it's time for another one!

    Dad's Root Beer......mmmmmmm...........

........with a big dollop of Praire Farms Vanilla ice cream, what a root beer float ! Best, or course, in a mug fresh out of the freezer.

Used a have a local A & W stand that served up some pretty good root beer floats. The root beer they'd bring to your car on a tray didn't taste like the stuff you'd get in the supermarket.
Guess it's the same difference between draft beer and bottled.

All this talk of root beer floats got me to thinking: anybody remember how to make an elephant float ?

I just had A&W Root beer in the frosted mug this afternoon. Hard to beat it. I grew up directly behind an A&W Drive-In so root beer floats were my after school delight. Couldn't have cost over 50-60 cents would be my guess.

God, I had such a craving for rootbeer earlier today. I havent had a float in probably two years now....I could sure go for one.

I dont even know if they are a national brand, but Saranac makes a decent rootbeer. Honestly, they make a few kinds of soda (they mainly brew beer) that are good....just a bit on the pricey side. Like 7 bucks for a sixer.

I was going to come here and recommend Virgil's, I've only had it a few times but it's really good. Much creamer and better head than other "premium" root beers I've tried, and it tastes a hint of Liquorice.

Interesting root beers they have on that site.

That's "Dr. Browns Root Beer Kosher". Pretty good rating, but I'm curious as to how a root beer earns the classification "Kosher".

Glad to see my "DADS" rootbeer received a 4-star rating.

Hate cream soda though. Don't know why. Maybe it's just the name. CREAM + SODA? Not appealing.

Anyone else here tried home-made root beer? Most people simply use an extract, water, and sugar. But the end results will still make store bought root beer tough to settle for.

For any interested just check with any good local home-brew shop. They should have all you need to get started. However, don't waste your time on the crappy Grocery store kits you can buy. They are nowhere near as good.
