Sda effect not working correctly.

Let me give you the background. My SDA-1Bs have been in use for about a month now and I have loved ever second of them. However, one thing I noticed is that my left one's "SDA effect" sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. The same piece will often time have a nice broad sound stage, and other times will essentially cut off not far outside the speaker.

I have the cable of course and it's securely connected. All 4 midrange drivers are working even when the "sda effect" is not.

Any ideas what could be the problem? Possibly a crossover issue or an internal cable loose of some sort?

Polk has an SDA trouble shooting guide they will provide for the asking. While you're waiting for that to arrive, pop out the drivers, check for loose or oxidized connections at the speaker and the crossover.

I will say that you are mistaken in thinking that the SDA drivers are working when you're not getting the proper soundstage. Because it's a sealed cabinet, they will move to the music even when not actually working.

Definetly get the trouble shooting guide. But I do wonder if the issues you are talking about happen while playing the same piece of music at different times. With some songs the SDA properties are very apparent, but on others it's almost non-existent. Are you talking about one piece of music that sounds different each time you listen to it or, that on some songs the SDA seems to be missing compared to other songs you listen to?

One simple test is to sit down in your listening position with the system playing at your normal levels. Have someone disconnect the reconnect the interconnect cable a couple of times while your listening. You should hear a big difference in the size of the soundstage when connected vs unconnected.
