Pro-Ject Debut III

Hey guys, I had to share some photos of my new toys. I just received my new turntable and phono preamp (Pro-Ject Phono Box II). I have it hooked up to the CD analogue ins on my VSX-1015, and it sounds awesome! I picked up some new vinyl to break them in (Ella Fitzgerald- All That Jazz, and The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery).

Man does it sound sweet. I haven't listened to vinyl in years. It sounds just fabulous trough the RT7s. Ella's voice sounds like velvet, and Wes's guitar sounds sweet as honey.

The little phono pre amp rocks! Very cool.:) I'm quite impressed I must say.

    The Pro-ject / Music Hall entry level tables are huge bang/buck items.

    Vinyl is a sickness though, once you get it......

    Thanks guys for the compliments. You know, I have to admit that I was very surprised at the good SQ attained on the vinyl recordings I've been listening to. I know I'm comparing analogue to digital (phono to CD/SACD), but there is something special about vinyl. Granted the Debut III is Pro-Ject's entry level TT, but it is a quality piece of gear. It will get alot of use.

    My wife commented that she preferred the sound of vinyl over the digital sound of CDs. She called the vinyl sound "round and bubbly-warm". I'm not saying that is my preference, but the vinyl SQ is very good. The TT has been played using stereo (2.1), and I must admit the little 1015 does an admirable job. I've been bitten for sure.

    One other comment. So far there's been no static or snap, crackle, pop in the records. Smooth as silk.

    I've got my eyes on one of these, too. Along with a Music Hall MMF-5/7, Rega Planar 3/P25, VPi Jr, and a couple of Clearaudios and Michells.

    Also, what does anyone know about Basis, Oracle, Systemdek, Roksan, Linn and Bix tables??

    One more question...what makes a transcription table so special??

    If you are not hearing a bunch of noises you are doing great in that price range. Glad to hear it is working out for you. Vinyl is a sickness. I suggest seeking help before it becomes terminal. :)

    A transcription turntable generally has more room between the arm and the table, thus a longer arm. The reason for this is to play the larger than 12" transcription records. They are larger and play at a higher speed (45 RPM or 78 RPM) for enhanced sound quality and are generally used for broadcasting. At least that is my understanding.

    As for the lack of noise, that has been on new vinyl. I found some used vinyl yesterday at a local thrift store for two bucks a pop (some jazz and classical). These are vintage recordings also, there was a little popping and static on some songs, but not too bad. Five decent LPs for 10 bucks. Can't complain. Looking for that kind of stuff is alot of fun, you never know what you may stumble onto.

    I've really been diggin' the new Wes Montgomery LP I bought from acoustic sounds. That man is incredible. Excellent recording.

    Even a little popping and crackle is doing good. My cheap table makes even a new lp sound noisy. I've been a fan of those tables (reading about them) but have never heard one. Sounds like it must be doing a fine job!
