Motorola RAZR Vs. LG Chocolate - Verizon

Those of you who have Verizon wireless and own either of these phones, which do you prefer? My upgrade is coming up in a couple months, and since I can get either of these phones for $50 at that time I wondered which one is the best.
Is there something new coming out worth waiting for?
Thanks in advance.

I think the new LG doesn't have speakerphone. Don't know if that is important to you or not. -

That's weird. Even my piece of crap (although it's served me well) Motorola V265 has one. It's not really important to me.
Sorry for making it look like a spam thread, funny stuff. -
yeah... its a little odd they would leave out such a common feature.

Mot is coming out with a new Razr that's a slider like the choclate. The Rizr i thinnk, they are also coming out with a less wide razr called the krazr. I think the rizr is going to verizon, not sure about the krazr.

Also, if you're at all interested, neither of those phones has a memory card slot feature. If you have any intention of transporting photos around from phone to pc or vice versa, it's a must have unless you want to keep paying for pic transferring through VZW's network.
There is also an LG8600 which is going to be a flip version of the Chocolate, but I don't know the release date on that one. The one thing I'm a bit concerned about is the fact that the buttons on the chocolate are touch sensitive (bigger issue if you just brush across a button and it nixes a call or whatever).
A good site to read up on things (though a VERY active site.....TMI and a lot is repetitive) is Howard Forums. They have a LOT of information that normally doesn't pop up other places.
I'm not a fan of the RAZR because it's too fragile. Aside from the software issues that seem to plague that phone, it's extremely break-sensitive (moreso than other phones). I also don't understand the influx of all these manufacturers rushing out slider phones everywhere. They basically double the thickness, or make it a quirky featuer on a phone that I don't see a positive on. The less moving parts, the better.
I have the LG 8300 and love it. It's not as thin as the RAZR, but it's got excellent speakerphone sound (dual speakers) and the battery life is great. It also has a slot for a Micro SD card that comes in very handy for what I mentioned above, but also if you want to listen to music (not typical for a cell, but a nice feature if you don't want to sport anything else).

The LG Chocolate takes microSD
edit: actually I think they both have microSD. -
I like the KRZR, that one looks pretty cool, at least aesthetically.

Thanks for the info, thankfully I have some time to decide on which way to go. Didn't they fix the problems with the RAZR, at least software wise?
I'll check out that website. -

Hey, there should be a good couple of hours of viewing pleasure after the last 2 days of posts! What if we run out of tasteful babes? -
FWIW
I don't know what issues the razr supposed to have or how rough you have to be to break one.. seems strong to me for a phone.. I bought my wife the pink razr first of the year and it works great, battery life is excellent and we can move audio and video onto the phone with mobile phone tools.. not sure if the verizon w/i tunes nixs that option or not.. we have cingular. I had the Moto L6 and it was just ok, so i traded it back in to rat shack and got the new blue razr and its issue free so far.. I love the razr looks, feel and the camera ability.. they also have the moto slvr L7 which does sport itunes and a sd card slot.. havent tried that one, but its effectivly a flat razrMY HT RIG:

I do like the SLVR, but the buttons shrink to almost half the size they are on teh razr, so for someone of my svelte frame, small buttons is nothing more than a PITA.....comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
on the razr I believe the slot is behind the battery cover.
if you look directly at verizon's website, both phones are listed as having microSD slots. This same information is also listed at Phonescoop, and is discussed on Howard Forums. The chocolate is being touted as a music phone and there is NO way they would not include a slot for expandable media. -

I got a Nokia "candy bar". I'm not a flip kind of guy. The candy bar phones have larger batteries for more talk time, reception is also better than any flip in my family. It's almost unbreakable and it cost $0. No camera or other features.
I think this is a good example when cheap is the best. I would probably break a skinny flip in a matter of weeks and end up buying a cheap phone to replace it.Carl -
I have the razr v3i with itunes. It's not crippled because I have t-moible as a service and it's an unlocked phone. it has a micro SD slot, a 1.3 MP camera and all sorts of other cool goodies. It has absolutely 0 issues like the v3 and v3c have. I owned a v3c for 2 weeks, even got the firmware update free from verizon and i still returned the phone. It was a horrible phone, the speaker phone stayed on until you turned it off, regardless of hanging up or not, you couldn't put a wallpaper on the outside screen, the clock only updated when you opened and closed the phone and verizon completely crippled it's data transfer capabilities. the only thing you could do with it is sync your contacts with ur comp. with my v3i i can send pictures, music and ringtones back and forth as i please. the only way to do that with the verizon phones is to use their vcast service and pay for all that stuff.
verizon is currently carrying the v3m which is essentially their butchered version of the v3i. i'd stay away from it. i hate verizon, switch to a gsm phone. -
I'll be sticking with Verizon. It's by far the best service provider in my area, and I have never had a single issue with them. I just need to find the right phone.
-
Someone mentioned the SLVR, and while it looks like a cool phone it definitely has some issues with being so small. I know two people who got it and said the speaker just didn't go loud enough (not speaker phone, just the regular phone speaker). So caveat emptor on that one.
As for the SD slots, my Nokia has a MicroSD but it's under the battery, I'm pretty sure this is (unfortunately) where most manufacturers have been putting them.
Good luck with the phone hunt. It always seems like the coolest phones are just on the horizon, doesn't it?If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

While I don't have either phone (I have the Motorola E815), I can tell you that a few people I know have the Razr and really like it. To be fair, nobody I know has the chocolate phone for comparison. Is there something new coming out worth waiting for?

Though I do not doubt you that the V3i can do all that, I own the V3c and have had no complaints. The phone is a tank. As far as data transfer, I use Handset Manager to constantly keep my contacts and appointments up-to-date with MS Outlook. I also use this same program to transfer pictures back and forth, create ringtones using MP3's, and transfer entire songs to it.
I have not tried to place a wallpaper on the outside LCD, and I always want my speakerphone option on until I turn it off. But I have no doubt you are probably right about some of the drawbacks of this phone. But it is not horrible. Probably just not as capable as the V3i.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

HolyDoc....the older versions of the v3c did not have the obex code removed from their OS so you can still transfer MP3's and pictures. I had a newer version where verizon had decided to turn these features off. That's why I hated mine so much.

Chocolate cell phone? wtf? really bad name for a cell phone.
why not just call it the stinky can of tuna razr, itunes, ipod, PSP, VOip, sexy beast phone? :rolleyes:PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I think it's a clever name, personally.
They marketing possibilities are endless, which is why I think they chose it. -
The phone started in europe, and when opened eminates a chocolate scenting that they had put in the packaging......comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

Uggh... that is ridiculous. Why do companies like Verizon mess up a good thing?

Greed. Verizon wants their customers to use get it now for vids, pics, etc.
They pissed off a lot of people by crippling the the Motorola v710 phone. There was a class action suit against Verizon and Verizon lost.

the reason why the chocolate phone has no speaker is because L was having issues with the speakerphone properly functioning. instead of pushing back the release date, or selling phones with faulty speakerphone, they just decided to omit the feature. I just got my choclate phone, and I see everyone walking around work with a chocolate phone. i love it, some people don't they don't like the sensitivity on the touch pad (you can adjust it, they're just stubborn). I also have the lg 8300, and the samsung a930, both of which are great phones. i'd have to say the 8300 is more "user friendly" if your not tech inclined, but i'm figuring out the chocolate. took a little while the first day. one thing i do like about the choc. when you close the keypad, your front display locks, so you don't have to worry about music randomly playing if you keep it in your pocket or purse. i love the red backlight. i really enjoy the phone. The only problem I have is if I put mine down or accidentally leave it in the break room, i'll have one heck of a time fining mine (guess I better customize). But that's what happens when they hype up a cell phone (especially to us employees) and then prolong the release... we all wanted it!

A friend just got the Chocolate and I was NOT impressed with it atl all. I'd opt for the Razor. What sucks for me is being with Sprint, I can't use one, I have to get the Samsung clone, which does seem to be as nice as the Razor. I'll be upgrading phones soon, because it's as cheap to upgrade phones as it is to buy a new battery these days.
Hey Doro, can ya getme any xtra discounts on any of the Sprint phones(I've been with them for 5 years)???:p"SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,
