Had the TV on this morning, the "Today Show" was on in the background and they had "musical" guest Cindy Lauper on.

I guess I just have one question:

How many more times in my life am I going to have to listen to "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun !" and "Be-Bop-A-Lula" (or whatever that last song is called). ?

For **** sake, Cindy, get some new tunes !!!

Almost as bad as Laura Branigan with "Gloria".

I am not particularly a big fan of Cindy Lauper either, but I know she is doing these songs for the Fans. If someone went to attend one of her shows, and she didn't play her staples then they would feel like they were shorted.

I for one, was shorted when U2 didn't perform Sunday Bloody Sunday during their last tour. After paying all that money and they didn't even play "my" favorite, and arguably the song that really put them on the map.

I'm with you on this 100%. I got a chance to see 'em live when they performed this song -- and the crowd went electric. Bono pulled the flag of Mexico from some fans in about the fourth row and draped himself with it. Like his politics or not, there was a definite energy coursing through the place...

Come to find out after the show that they rarely perform Sunday Bloody Sunday live, and had made an exception on this night. Weird -- because it's not just an awesome live song, but an awesome event. Maybe they don't want to trivialize it by playing it too many times:confused:
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. Maybe, but this was my first time that I had seen them live, and I would bet that probably a majority of the people in the stadium, it was their first time as well. The artists need to realize this and play their "hits". I wasn't the only one that was standing around waiting for an encore of the song.

Metallica does a good job at playing their old songs each and every time they play, it may be a 15 min. melody of all of them mashed in, but at least they perform them.

So, let it be. If I have to here "It's My Life" one more time I see Bon Jovi on TV........Ugh..

That would be "She Bop" (or female masturbation).

"She's So Unusual" is actually a pretty good album. Eric Bazilian, Rick Chertoff and Rob Hyman produced the album and played backup. They went on to form Hooters which did some nice stuff. And also were part of one of my all-time favorite albums..."Relish" by Joan Osborne.

They don't play all of their hits, usually, because they're trying to sell their latest CD. They only have so long to play, and an extensive catalog to play off of. The best time to see a band if you want the hits is when they're not promoting anything.

I know it doesn't make perfect sense, because you figure anyone at a concert would have all of the bands material, but I worked for a major touring band on the side for a few years and that's the gist of it that I got from them. Amazingly annoying, but record labels often have some control over the variety in some bands set lists.

Another thing is that some songs just never get played life. Sometimes the emotional connection to a piece that the artist has isn't always understood by the audience.

Well go figure, I have always enjoyed her, caught her latest special where she did her "French" version of She Bop which was kind of funny. She has a great vocal range and far underceeded her talent with some material, she seems to have a pretty good sense of humour to boot.

thank you krabby5. I've seen her three times in concert.. while not my favorite female singer.. I think she's better than alot of others out there.

If you've ever seen her sing True Colors in concert.. it will bring tears to your eyes. She opened for CHer on her Farewell Tour a few years ago. Most everyone in the audience thought she was better than Cher. :D

Well I was going to add my own deep insight: that "Time After Time" is a bitchen song... but I was one post too late. But, I had completely forgotten "True Colours", which although a bit schmaltzy, was a nice song, too. Kodak used it an ad campaign for a while, as I recall.

I am perhaps the only living human being who has never (knowingly) heard the song "She Bop"?!

Laura Branigan, sadly, died from a cerebral hemmorhage in 2004 at the age of about 47. Gloria and Self Control (hmmm, interesting antithesis to "She Bop?) were great songs, IMO. She never really realized her potential due in part to lackluster choice of songs on her albums.

I'm a youngin so I never really heard of her. I recognize some of those oldies but first time i heard her was a clip of her on the three penny opera on the Tony's.

You can see her in an interesting outfit singing with Nightcrawler from X-Men. Song about pimpin....pimp'n.

Hope there's nothing wrong with embed. But if there is i'll just leave the link. Just trying to make it convieant. (sp...)

I've always thought of Ms. Lauper as a very interesting character. I think Lou Albano held her back.

The song that I'd like to hear her sing is the "Money Changes Everything" song. That may not be the title, but that is the chief refrain.

The duet with the Nightcrawler dude showed that she definitely is NOT a one-trick pony.

....looked kind of nice in that outfit, btw.

It's from like 1998. I don't even know if she's around anymore. I don't listen to music like that, but I always loved that version of the song. So much I actually went out and bought the single. The song obviously sounds better on a good sound system with good quality. :D
