Thanks for producing things.
I looked at the listing at the top and went straight to the one about an audio only store and read that.
This is a subject which would reflect a lot about the person and it's a good read, a fantasy yes like you say.
One gripe would be the picture/column layout on page 19 and 20, the left colum is soooo hard to read/broken on page 20.

Very interesting. I did not know a speaker company offered an upgrade path. Maggies have definitely caught my attention now. I may have to find a place to listen to them. If I can gradually upgrade without losing any money, that is an awesome deal.
I wish Polk encouraged trade-ups. What a wonderful marketing scheme.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

That is a nice thing about being a smaller company, the flexibility in upgrading. Since Polk goes thru retailers, it would be up to them to allow upgrades. I know Circuit City offered upgrades when they carried the Polk RTi line.Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

Mark,
A note about the maggie article: The maggies say they only need 50W, but anyone who has owned them (and tested this) would tell you if you don't have an amp that can drive a 2 ohm load (which they can drop down to) and have at least 250W, you're not getting what you can out of the speakers. The MMG's might be a bit different although they've only ever sounded magical on Mark's BBQ amp (about 450W+ /channel). My 3.3R's lacked low end punch and clarity until I went over 400W. Of course, YMMV and someone might be perfectly happy with the sound from 50W, but I's still contend that they sound better the more power/damping/instantaneous current capability that you can provide. There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. A valid point for sure. I'll make sure to pass that onto the article's author, Mike Jarve.Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

jdhdiggs,
I am kind of interested in this speaker line now. Where (besides the manufactorer site) would I go to learn more about them? The fact that they let you upgrade has really caught my attention. I just cannot get over what a nice gesture that is.
I will need ideas on how to compare them to other speakers. In other words, I want to give them a fair test instead of dismissing them when I may not have had enough power, or the right setup, etc. Any advice would be wonderful.

Mark,
I do apologize for hijacking the thread. But as you can see, your magazine did spark interest where interest had not existed before.

Actually, with Marks permission, I think a thread hijack is warranted as we are talking about something that came from his magazine. BTW Mark, excellent job getting that thing started!
With the MMG's, I feel that they messed one thing up on them- They don't stand upright. If you can tilt them upright and have a good SS amp, I would bet that they stand on their own merits. By a good SS amp, prtty much anything over 150 W/channel should give you a good idea of what the MMG's do.
As for setup, I prefer the maggie recommended method of toeing them in. You start with them about 2' apart always angle right at your listening area and keep spreading them out until the image breaks up or you get within a foot of the wall.
If you have the space and the amps to do a correct maggie setup, you will be hard pressed to find a better speaker (@ $550 for the MMG's)There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. What do you mean the Maggies do not stand upright?
So my outlaw770 amp (7x200watts @ 8ohms) would be enough to drive them ok?
Are they a good HT speaker? I am about 80/20 HT with my system. It is very important that I get great HT sound. Do the Maggies put out enough impact for HT use? I always heard that they were accurate but tame.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

THe outlaw would be fine. As for the MMG's not being upright, well, if 90d is striaght up and down, the stock MMG's stand at about 70d sloping away from you.
Enough impact for HT use... Pfffffsssh! Anyone who claims they don't have bass hasn't heard a set properly setup and amplified. You may have some trouble due to the space requirements though...There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Size: Mind you these are the 3.3's, not mmg...
The first is in comparison to a 32" TV, and SVS PB12+2 is hiding there as well.
The second is comparing to the SDA1-B. I would say the MMG's are a bit larger than the SDA1-B.
The other "size" issue is they don't like being next to walls. 2' from any wall is preferable.

Hey, remember, those are the 3 series. The MMG's wouldn't take up more floor space than your RTi12's. In fact, that is a PERFECT speaker to compare as they both tend to be amp limited. Try A-gon and get some used MMG's for $350. If they are too big or you don't like em, sell them for $350.There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction.
