OK guys, the newest newb needs some help. I was at a local pawn shop and found a massive pair of Polk towers. After doing some research on this very informative site, I have determined that these are definitely SDA SRS 2.3s. They are not the TLs. I don't have any pictures and I am going totally by memory, but I will try to give a good description of these speakers.

- The wood and the fabric seem to be in extraordinary condition for a speaker set of this age. I do not remember seeing any scratches or tears in the wood which was the lighter version. The pair was stacked tightly on a shelf so I couldn't get to the back to check the connections or the condition of the backside. But judging by the condition of the wood and the fabric, I would say that these were well taken care of.

- I then noticed 3 or 4 for of the woofers had damage tot he surrounds. This led me to believe that maybe these weren't babied as much as I originally thought. Maybe some curious but less than gentle customers caused the damage. Who knows, but let’s say that a minimum of 4 drivers will need to be replaced and who knows about the tweeters. The radiators looked fine.

- I didn't see any spikes or wall braces.

- I didn't see the SDS connecting cable.

- I was not able to put power to them and may not be able to before making an offer.

I don't mind the challenge of a reconditioning project. In fact I look forward to it. I would like to make an offer on these but I want to know a ballpark value before I head back into the shop. Through searching this forum and polksda.com I find that these can go anywhere from $600-1200. Considering the factors I have described above, where would you ballpark these? I realize that my description may not be as detailed as some of you may like, but this is the best I can do at this point.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Go low. I paid $1200 Canadian for an absolute MINT pair of 2.3 tl's. Offer $400 and see what happens. One thing for sure, you're gonna have to sink a few hundred into them.

How much do the replacement drivers and tweeters run? Does Polk still carry them?

The tweeters (RD0194-1) are $48.00 each for Club members. I don't remember what the drivers cost. One word of caution, if the drivers with the donuts on them are among the damaged ones, I don't believe they are available. Your best bet would be to call Polk tomorrow.

I would go lower than 400 as your initial offer for the following reasons:

-Speakers will have to be sourced on the used market and will cost 30-50 bucks a piece plus shipping.
-If the "donut" drivers need to be replaced you may be waiting a long time for replacements to come along.
-You will need the interconnect cable. Can be found used or you can make one, or you can find an aftermarket replacement cable. Minimum cost will be 30-50 bucks for a replacement depending on length.
-You have no idea if there is more damage than you initially noticed.

If you start with a 400 dollar investment I don't think you will have them up and running for less than 700. That number seems about right, so I would recommend starting lower with the intention of settling on 400 as the final deal.
