Yep, Im gonna reveal what I plan to do with my system in the next year or two...
Im looking for opinions on the speakers and what you would suggest for a similar price...
Speakers - Tyler Acoustics Freedom F5
Subwoofers - Stereo SVS PC+ 20-39
Amp - Odyssey Khartago or Marsh A400s - most like the Khartago with upgrade capatinance, XLR inputs, and a silver faceplate
Preamp - Good ol Reliable B&K PT5 for now...
Eventually this will be integrated into a HT setup...
I really like Ty and his speaks, the Taylo line is a bit out of my budget and the ones I can afford in the Linbrook is to small for what I want, but I really like the F5...
Any thoughts?

You could afford the Taylo Ref Monitors for the price of an F5 - why do you need larger mains, especially with a sub? Even without a sub the Taylos Refs sound a LOT larger than they look. I'd go for the higher quality drivers. I know Early B. and George Daniel (and anyone that I've ever played them for) will agree these are awesome speaks.
If you can wait for a pair to come up, buy used from audiogon and save a TON of money. Ty always has a large list of used gear for sale, but individual members will sell for quite a bit below these prices.
Another speaker I loved in the ballpark price range - the Tannoy Eyris DC3, a small footprint floorstander. Has great imaging and incredible musicality like the Taylos, but warmer and with a bit more low end response. Pairs real well with the PS Audio HCA2 that can be had used for under $700. I hate that I had to sell my Taylos and TannoysTannoy Dimension TD10, SOTA Star Sapphire, Heathkit W4A's, McIntosh MC2100, Eddie-Current Zana Deux, Singlepower SDS, Sennheiser HD650, Audio-Technica L3000, Sony Qualia 010 -
Im buying these new...
Im supporting my speaker companies that are... pushing the limits and offering a SOLID product...hand built...
Yeah, Ill shell out a lil more.
$2,400 shipped, caps it for speakers though and thats right around the F5...
Ill check out their other speakers, I really dont like monitors though, Ive heard some very expensive monitors and Ive always been a floorstander guy.
The Taylo MTM tower caught my eye, but a tad to much...
Then theres the Linbrook Floor Monitor - beautiful speaker.
If the Taylo 7u is available used around the time I am purchasing, I will definitely give those a thought or two as that would be nice paired with my SVS subs.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Aren't you a DIY guy? For that kind of money you could build yourself a very, very nice pair.

Wing...
They are the same exact subs??? The Cylinders are actually known to be a lil more accurate since there is less flexing...
I like them because they are cheaper and lighter and offer the same sub for less overall. However, when I was looking - I was at first wanting the box subs, but I just couldnt afford the price difference - it was 4-500 more... SVS is going to hook me up and give me a deal. So its all good.
Yeah, I understand I can get the Khartago far less used - but then I wouldnt be supporting Klaus and Odyssey. The Odyssey amp is based off a 3,000 dollar amp. Definitely worth a grand. The only thing I want used is my processor as processors are outrageous in price.
I may be getting less for my money, but Im tired of complaining about companies not going certain directions, when I am not even supporting that direction. So now I am doing it.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

I believe that you are a 2 way guy so I will suggest the SEAS Thor. I heard great things about these when doing the research in my decision of what to build. Being that it is a Dr. Joe D'App......design I believe it. I thought that it may be a little too much for a first timer with the transmission line. Another thing that steared me away is I felt it didn't go deep enough.....but that's just me.
Who knows I may still do it down the road as I am really enjoying the process. However, there are some RAW Accoustic designs that are appealing to me as well. I am interested in hearing a Ribbon tweeter. I have never heard one but what people say it sounds like is actually what I am looking for. I love that splash and sense of air in the highs.

I must compliment you on your decision to go with Tyler Acoustics. Frankly, I'm flabbergasted. I also agree with Mulveling about the Reference Monitors. Do NOT get the new Freedom F5. Instead, go for a pair of used 7U's or the Reference Monitor Floorstanders as you mentioned. Believe me, you want to get into a Reveletor tweeter, not a Vifa ring radiator.
I also like the idea of an Odyssey or Marsh amp. Save a little money and add an ATI 1502 to your list. IMO, the ATI smoked my Odyssey Stratos in SQ. The Odyssey had more slam, but it sounded a bit artificial.
However, forget about using SVS as stereo subs. With a decent pair of floorstanders, you won't need it. If you still want to do it, there are better options in that price range. Agree with Early B.
Also wanted to warn you - when you put together a whole system sight unseen - you run a substantial risk that the components will not "click" together with your room/ears. That's where buying used is your saving grace. You can resell and try something else without eating much loss. Sure supporting cool companies is great, but keep in mind that when you buy used in a small market like this, you may be forcing someone else to buy new Also, Ty sells his own used gear (at a premium, but with a warranty) and you're still directly helping him out that way. I've done this twice, though it really cost me when it came time to resell the Linbrooks (they didn't "click") - those are a hard sell these days. Buy new only when you're absolutely sure it's what you want, IMO.Tannoy Dimension TD10, SOTA Star Sapphire, Heathkit W4A's, McIntosh MC2100, Eddie-Current Zana Deux, Singlepower SDS, Sennheiser HD650, Audio-Technica L3000, Sony Qualia 010 -
I understand alot of your opinions and suggestions.
However, Im looking for some very different things in this hobby.
I seriously considered Tylers upper line, and still am actually. It came down to - I want detail... but I dont want detail. I want to hear the detail, ring, texture of cymbals, the fine details in music - but I also want to enjoy the music.
To me, getting into those higher end tweeters - there is absolutely no way with the music I listen to that I will "enjoy" them. The Behringers, while not a Linbrook speaker are insanely detailed, almost to the point of sucking the fun out of music.
A good example, my Definitives - NOT the most detailed of speakers. I know that... I also like that. I can listen to my Definitives for 2-3 hours (Ive done it before) and still love what I hear. VERY enjoyable speakers, they make my foot tap.
I really like the LSi line, I really like that tweeter the Freedom line uses. Its a fine mesh of detail and "foot tapping ability"... but it comes down to... the Freedom line is hand made, it uses far better midbasses and crossover components. Its coming from a company that is willing to push the limit and try to gain the respect of the higher end market and has done so successfully.
The Linbrook floor monitors are out of the question really. They really are just to small. I've gone the route of small towers and theres just no way Ill ever do that again. They can sound excellent, but I want to feel endless amounts of dynamics. I should be done listening before they are done playing. There should be no moment where I cant go that extra notch to go that much louder in my opinion.
The Taylo, I definitely am considering the 7u, amazing looking speaker, excellent drivers - but itll definitely have to be used.
I really like those Legacy speaks... very nice design.
Another one I like AV123, the Onix, Strata, and Reference lines... but I dont think they are near the quality of Tyler.
The SVS decision I am keeping, I really like SVS - their products, their service. It also comes down to - Im not looking for a wimpy, accurate sub. Accuracy isnt my priority. SVS to me can mesh well in my system, Im doing it now. Its a foot tapper, I enjoy it being there...
I just want right and left seperation and the ability to move these to a HT one day and fill a large room.
Im looking at all your recomendations, I love it. Just remember Im not in this hobby for that uber accurate sound that gets old and boring. I want the foot tapping, somewhat detailed, big staging kind of speaker. The F5 while maybe not a world class speaker, it like the Legacy that was shown in this thread has the ability to scare me. It can scare me all while laying down some good accuracy. That is what is important to me.
Im in this hobby to have fun not analyze music.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

You're assuming that accuracy is "old and boring." This implies that inaccuracy is more musical. As the name indicates, accuracy means that a cymbal sounds like a cymbal, a piano sounds like a piano, etc. In other words, if a speaker is indeed accurate, it is generally (but not always) "musical" because it sounds like, ugh, music.
I'm not trying to influence your decision. Just saying that your rationale for pursuing lesser quality speakers is interesting because I believed that, too, until I heard the awesome accuracy of the Taylos. They are also extremely musical speakers, IMO.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Assuming Tyler will have a pair of 7us available... in a finish that isnt...weird at the time I am ready to purchase, they will be high on my list.
I dont think I would be dissapointed in the least bit with the F5. I really like them.
As for buying new... not liking the product.
The chances of me... not liking them is 1 out of 20 chances. I say that, because I like just about every speaker Ive heard... Im not that picky... I just want to enjoy it, why is that so hard to find though? lol
The only speaker Ive ever..."hated" was the RTi70, I would be happy if every one of those things spontaneously combusted..right now.
This system is a system that should last me for 10 years. Eventually I will get matching center and surrounds and Ill get a HT processor and this will be my HT setup. That is my goal...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Klaus from Odyssey said he can get me the amp I want for under a grand...
He just earned my business. LOL
Ill most likely pick that thing up by the beginning of next month. It will push my DTs for a while until I can get the funds for the F5s or w/e I end up with... who knows. I am saving up slowly...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
