plasma computer monitor?
I need to spec out a plasma monitor that will work out as a computer monitor for work. It needs to be 42" to 50" in size and will be mounted high on the wall in our brightly lit lunchroom.
It will have powerpoint slideshows running on it pretty much 24/7 and the viewing angles (and bright area) pretty much demand a plasma screen.
What models do you all recommend for this use? (powerpoint slideshows - must hook to a computer as a monitor)
Thanks for your help,
Michael

tv monitors in the speakers section..... ok
my favs are pioneer or hitachi, but most people like the panasonic (I personally don't like them but).AVR: H/K AVR240
Fronts: Monitor 50s

surrounds: R15s
Sub:Velodyne DPS10
Dvd/Cd: Samsung HD upconverter (for now)
TV: 50" Sammy Plasma
game hardware: 360 and gcn.

panasonic's commercial line seems to get good reviews. you can buy adapter blades to accept whatever type of input you need (DVI/HDMI/VGA/etc.).
Costco carries them with their excellent return policy. -

Anyway - do most of the TV's come with a cable to hook them up to your PC or do pretty much all of them require an adapter of some sort?

Any HD monitor you pick up will be fine and be able to connect to VGA/DVI. If the unit only has HDMI in for some godforsaken reason, you can buy a $30 splitter that will let you hook up a DVI signal to it. You would want at least 720p supported, though at that size I think you should be looking for 1080p. Aside from that, use whatever... just make sure you have something moving on the plasma at all times your you might risk some burn in.Lovin that music year after year.

some manufacters give you a vga/rgb cables. I can't remember which though(sorry, i know that wasn't any help:) ). If you want to use a dvi connection, then you have to purchase that( i don't remember any coming with dvi/hdmi)AVR: H/K AVR240

Does it have to be plasma, or can you spec an LCD instead. You wouldn't run the risk of burn-in, plus, LCD's tend to look better with data displayed on them. There are a few within the 40-42" range, but if you go much bigger than that, they become more pricey than plasma.Tschüss

Some things to consider when hooking up to a computer:
- One to one pixel mapping with no (or minimal) overscan. Although some of the latest video cards can correct for overscan, the ability is still somewhat output dependent.
- VGA or DVI progressive scan input 60hz or greater (an interlaced or a low refresh rate will be noticable).
- The higher the resolution, the more powerful of a video card you will need (do not expect mother-board video to handle 1080p well).
Personally, I would pick a video card at the same time when picking a monitor. To make sure their capabilities match.
I think you will find that a plasma monitor (usually a commercial model) may suit your needs better. Many of the home plasma tvs, come up short when connecting to a computer.
PS. these screen savers look awesome on an hdtv:

Definitely go LCD. Plasma will burn in.

We just replaced a couple of CRT with some 42" LG units. Don't know the Models but they seem to work good with PPoint.>
