Suddenly no sound

I have a Denon AVR-1801 Receiver and a Sony CD player with 3 Polk speakers. I have the Receiver set on Auto. I can play music CDs with no problem. Last week, I put in a movie and I have a great picture but no sound. I have gone through the manual and punched every combination I can think of and no luck in getting sound from the movie. I also checked the Tuner, and no sound there either. What have I done? Any help is appreciated, my frustration level is at a critical mass and I can hardly go back to my system.

The hook-up from CD/DVD player to Receiver is coaxial and has never been changed in the 5 years I've had the system. The CD/DVD player is a 5 disk carousel from Sony and I can not remember the model number.

I'd say, do a master reset and get everything back to default.

    Hmm...

Is the mute engaged? Is the digital input selected correctly?

Anthony, there was a time I would be all over both of those questions!!!:D

Talking about inputing digits and if mutes are engaging, the shame of it all.

So Zeke you get it running yet???

My old sony 5 disc died. All of the sudden it would not recognize DVD's. It would still play music but not DVD's.

Perhaps yours had a similar issue?

Thanks for the suggestions. No, I have not been able to get sound from DVDs, and my tuner won't put out sound for the radio. Mute is not turned on and I tried to go back the default settings. I can only attempt to reconfigure the settings for about an hour, because my frustrion level gets to a dangerous point. I'm going to swallow my emberassment and pay someone to come to my house and see if they can set-up the system.

    zeke,

I am not a Denon 1801 expert, you have a set up problem, I know you are at wits end with the thing, but you need to go back to square one, unhook everything and then add back one piece at a time and check to see if it works as you go along. Did you try hooking the DVD to the CD input you are using for sound? Just run the video cable straight away to the TV and see is your player is working. You need to try something different to get your brain out of the rut and your juices flowing.
