The Rolling Rock brewery in Latrobe, PA was sold to Anheiser-Busch. They closed this brewery last week and Anheiser-Busch now brews Rolling Rock in New Jersey. Many faithful employees who brewed this beer for many years have lost their jobs. I will never drink a Rolling Rock or any beer brewed by Anheiser-Busch ever again.

Latrobe, PA is a small town in Western PA. Latrobe was a pretty well known town. Arnold Palmer was born, raised and still lives there. So was Fred (Mr.) Rogers up until his death.

I don't care, RR tastes like **** anyway.

Only thing I DO care about is getting a pair of original Latrobe bottles for my salt and pepper shakers - I've got the caps, straight from the original brewery.

Collectors, money makers, residents, take note. If you've got 'em, horde 'em (and send me a pair). I heard about this two months ago, but forgot to post!

    Cheers,

After old man Auggie Bush died, the whole brewery's gone downhill.

The brewery used to be THE top notch place to work in St. Louis. Not anymore.
The brewery also allowed it's St. Louis Distributor to bust the union of it's drivers.

....not to mention that it's beer has turned into piss water over the years.

Yuengling is an outstanding brew. The employees of Latrobe need to buy the plant and develop their own home brew. I never like RR except as a kid we were buying cases of 16 ouncers for 5 bucks or so. It would take a six pack to forget about how bad it actually tasted!

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Probably goes with the global warming thread better.
So now we can drink ourselves into a warmer climate?
Greenlanders launch beer brewed with ice cap water

A Greenland brewery has said it has started making beer with pure water from the ice cap destined to give it a uniquely cool taste and worldwide appeal.

"This is a an old dream finally coming true," Greenland Brewhouse co-owner Steen Outzen told AFP Wednesday. "Our aim is to make a unique, very high-quality beer, for connaisseurs."

The ice which has covered Greenland for millenia gives the new beer a "very special taste", reminiscent of "chocolate, grilled nuts and roasted coffee beans", he said.

It has an alcohol content of 5.5 percent by volume, comes in two varieties "Brown Ale Greenland" and "Pale Ale Greenland", and has an "American taste", the brewers said, adding they hoped for worldwide success.

Brewed in Narsaq, southern Greenland, the beer is bottled in northern Germany at the Flensburger Brauerei and was officially launched at Copenhagen's Tivoli amusement park.

Outzen acknowledged that his idea was not entirely new, as over the centuries tiny breweries had tried their hand at making beer with ice cap water. "But the quality was not great," he said.

The first 66,000 litres of production will be offered primarily in Denmark at a price of 35 kroner (six dollars, 4.70 euros) per half-litre bottle.

Greenland Brewhouse, which receives help from the Greenland local government, hopes to sell two million litres of beer in the first year of production, mostly in Europe and the United States.
