Bang And Olufson Speakers

Anyone ever listened to B and 0 gear? I have never heard them, but a pair of tall, narrow towers (not the aluminum ones) are coming up for action soon. Of course, I don't need anymore speakers, but...Just curious if they make the real deal stuff. I see they have a cult following for the Beo line gear and get decent money.

Too much James Bond and not enough James Brown for me.............great asthetic designs, but weak in audio fidelity for the $$$ they sold for, kinda like Bose.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

I agree. I 'auditioned' one of their spaceship looking home theaters and thought that my old Polk LSI set up sounded way better.Sharp Elite 70

The older S45/60/70/75/80 speakers from the mid-70's to early 80's were very nice. The later S45-2's were a fantastic set of small monitors. These speakers used Seas drivers and the same Peerless tweeter used in the Polk Monitors. After that the company went to marketing hell!DKG999

Ive had one experience with B&O...
And they sound like body odor...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Bang and Olufsen is some very good looking stereo equipment. but it's over priced and only so so sounding. Impressive to look at no doubt. Design wise i love the look of B&O gear over the years. I've only owned very few pieces of B&O gear.. and none of them did i ever keep.
Very Jetson's looking gear.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

b&o made some very respectable speakers in the 1970's using high-quality components (e.g., SEAS, Peerless, Philips). They get a bad rap for their style-conscious design and high price, but b&o wasn't (and even still isn't) Bose.
If you're interested in vintage b&o gear, the best source of info I know of is:
http://www.beoworld.co.uk/
The other b&o specialist I know of is:
http://www.sound-smith.com/
They seem expensive; I have no experience with them. I believe they are supplying replacement cartridges for the later b&o tt's. -
Last time I went into the B&O store it completely reminded me of Bose.

The EARLY models are arguably great speakers even with high quality drivers. The later models were of poor construction and even worse components. The BEO gear and their siblings just performed the task, nothing special aside from aesthetics. At that time....they were pushed very hard on the market as high-end, and certainly could be perceived as such, but they weren't. That's of course, in hindsight.
They were the BOSE of the 80's as they were overpriced and underachieving. The resale value isn't bad for the gear but most sellers think they are worth more, so the market for them is very small.
They just aren't worth the time given there is much better gear on the loose for less.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Couple of issues ago, Stereophile reviewed a pair of B & O's. I think the reviewer called them the best speakers he had ever heard. I think they were $70k, which shows me they can do it when they put their minds to it. They just can't do it affordable.

Great info. I'm not positive, but I think they may be Beo 6000 (not marked), which seem to command a good price on F1's favorite site, Ebay. I may pick them up if the price is right and use them to finance a Bose whole house setup;) ......FYI-my dad loves his Bose three speaker, all-in-one surround setup. It pains me that he spent good money on it, but he ain't a hi-fi kinda guy....When you wonder who buys all that crap on the infomercials.....Dad.UNIVERA
