Monitor 7B

Hi
I'm new to the forums and this is my first post.
I have a pair of 7B's that I've had since new.
They are a great sounding pair of speakers and I've never considered replacing them.
I'm not an audiophile like many of you but I know what sounds good to me.
The 7B's are part of my home theater and I'd like to get some opinions on what other vintage polk would match up in sound quality I could use as a center channel.
Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe,
Welcome to the forum!
Most of us, present company included, are more audiophools than philes - were just nuts enough to enjoy the hobby.
The Monitor 7's are highly regarded around here and nothing to be apologetic about. I would think a single Monitor 5 or 5jr (maybe even the pair in mono) would make a nice sonic match. But, I'm sure there are many others that would fill the bill. Stick around, there will be plenty of suggestions forthcoming.

All of the monitor line (4,5jr,5jr+,7,10)use the same driver/tweeter combination. Just make sure you get the 1st generation monitor series and not the second which has the upgraded tweeter/crossover.SRT For Life; SDA Forever!
The SRT SEISMIC System:
Four main satellite speakers, six powered subs, two dedicated for LFE channel, two center speakers for over/under screen placement and three Control Centers. Amaze your friends, terrorize your neighbors, seize the audio bragging rights for your state. Go ahead, buy it; you only go around once. -
welcome gandyj first of all. secondly.. can you post a picture of one of your 7B's so we can see what tweeter is has? Or if you know which tweeter.. then please tell us.
but like the guys already mentioned the 5 and 5jr would be good matches... there may be others too from the monitor line up.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I've attached two photos of the speakers with the grills removed.
The tweeters are a soft dome type with no markings.

I painted them black several years ago.

not bad at all

I found a monitor 5jr to go with my 7B's as a center channel.
I hooked it up today and the difference between it and my other center channel was like night.
Are original drivers for these speakers 5's and 7's still available?
It will be painted black to much the 7's.
Thanks

oops, I guess there's no 'delete' option on this forum :-P
Well, since there isn't... I'll just say: The Monitor 7 family were fine speakers. -
I love the vintage Monitor series as it's just a fun speaker without the wires attached.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

eh? My 7A's were lots of fun with wires attached to them back in college and grad school (JHU). -
I meant in regards to SDA's...should have been more specific.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

ahh... those wires. Gotcha.

Getting my "new to me" 7B's dropped off Friday morning. Any ideas from you 7B owners on electronics to run them? Will my carver tfm-6 be about right to get them going at moderate levels (65 wpc @ 8ohms). I could bring in my ST-202, but that would leave my other system a little short handed on the fronts.
Any other advice (placement, easy upgrades, maintenance, etc) to make sure I'm getting the most out of them would be greatly appreciated!Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand

your Carver will do just fine.. i ran mine for a few years off a older Yamaha intergrated 45wpc and they loved it. more power will only make them sound better. but don't fret over the "what if" type of situation.
just hook them up and enjoy.

Cool. I won't get to give them a spin until Monday, but I'll start with the old Carver and go from there. If they're only 8 ohm speakers, I think the carver will be just fine.
