Just got my 1070 hooked up and pumpin after waiting for 2 weeks to show up. Keeping in mind that i had my Denon 3805 bi-amped using the rear surrounds i think there is still a noticable improvement. I don't think that there's much difference until i get it turned up to say -10db or higher, it's then that i notice that the speakers just exude power. The bass is unbelievably more punchier and tighter. The only thing missing in the bass now is the fact that the M70's only go to 40 hz, other than that i am finally happy with the bass respose on these babies. Mids come through and just slap ya up side the face...woa..i'm not sure how exactly to describe this change but yup..the word "muscle" just keeps popping up. Highs are not quite as much drastic improvement. Definitely crystal clear for sure but they weren't bad without the amp. I am using the same speaker wire and rca's i used to biamp on the back of the Denon, cheap 16 guage wire and pheonix gold rca's. I wanted to keep that part the same so i could just put the amp into the equation and see the initial improvements. I think that with some better rca's and maybe a good set of cables this amp would really show it's true colors better, but maybe not as my speakers or source could be also holding it back as well. I'll update this as soon as i get some better IC's to see if there's a difference.

The only thing that ticks me off about this whole purchase is the $80 extra i had to give the delivery guy at my door to cover brokerage fees and GST. I had no idea that would happen. Guess i know now for next time.

What are brokerage fees and GST?

Overall, you sound pretty pleased with the upgrade. The next test will be to see if there is even more improvement with better cables & IC's. More importantly you gotta get a sub dude.

Congrats Jay. So when all the dust settled ask yourself this. Are you happy and did you save money from buying south of the border?

First off...Errn Dogg...i do have a sub..it's a sony SA WX700 it was their top of the line about 4 yrs ago..very happy with it..but i don't care for two channel with a sub. But i do use it just to fill in that missing bottom end. I only run it at around -11 on the channel trim, just enough to hear it but not intrude on the sound from the 70's.
Second....brokerage fees are fees that are charged by border brokers to do the paperwork to get a piece across the Canada- US border....GST is a stupid tax our Canadian government charges on absolutely everything. Used to be you could avoid it by buying used but they have managed to get at that too if there's a paper-trail.
Actually i don't think i saved money at all buying south of the border...by the time i paid the exchange and shipping and that extra $80 i ended up at $640CND. I just couldn't find a 1070 up here that was in mint shape like this one is.

The 1070 is one reliable amp. I've had mine for about 2 years. Even when i'm cranking the tunes, it never gets hot. A solid performer. Enjoy.

I have noticed that it does get warm, i'm not sure how warm would be considered hot. The top is fairly warm but i can hold my hand on it and not have to move it because of the heat so i guess that's not too bad.
I'm forgetting quickly about the money every time i hear the sweet music that badboy puts out.

The 1070 is a solid amp... I got the 1070 after my HK330 and I thought it was more than a noticeable improvement with regards to imaging and focus of the vocalist even at relatively low volumes (70db or so).

The 1070 is a good amp... I used it for a long time before moving up to their 1090 dual mono amp.

And yes.... the improvements dont stop.

Next up, Plinius or Levinson. ;)

Congrats on your amp acquisition Jayman:)

I'm sure you're finding out now that the Monitor 70's are grossly underappreciated. Too many people out there underpowering 'em...

They really do have a lot of potential, and IMO have the capability to become a nice pair of speakers for two-channel. HT, on the other hand......

btw I like what you're doing with the sub integration. Keep it low and watch/hear it blend seamlessly with your towers. This is something that sets the 70's apart from everything else in the Monitor line-up.

And when you do take the plunge on some higher quality IC's and cable, might I recommend some offerings by Signal Cable? Your rig will thank you:D
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

lots of people have been recommending Signal Cable, I think i'm gonna look into them. You're right about the 70's being a decent 2 channel speaker, since i got my amp i am really enjoying them and can say i'm quite happy for now. I haven't tried anything else other than sony speakers for HT so i don't know what the 70's are lacking there. Honestly i find that i hear mostly my center channel and surrounds during movies anywhoo, not sure what the front L/R actually contribute but i don't think they're taking anything away from my H/T experience. Maybe ignorance truely is bliss..lol.

Get a Radio Shack SPL meter & calibrate your speakers. However, the majority of movies comes through your center speaker.
