It is a great sub especially for the current price. When I purchased mine they were close to the $2000 range, if I recall correctly. These subs are powerfull, go deep, and still retain speed. Personally I really love this sub for movies and it does a good job with music to. I have it crossed over at 60hz and it works like a charm. The only downside to this sub is there is not much going on inside. I personally dampened the internal cabinet because I had a issue with the thing vibrating, and when I did I saw there wasn't much in there. No batting, no bracing, but lots of empty space. This is after opening up my LSi9s to do similar tweaks, seeing bracing, batting, and thicker better speaker wire then the Supernova had. I guess it really doesn't matter because the thing is a powerhouse, but I am just unsure why a 12in $2000+ subwoofer wasn't built as well as a pair of $1000 speakers.

    Jared,
I checked the link for your ht setup and it looks great. What kind of an improvement did you get from the mods you made to the earthquake? I have the IV version (at least I thinks that's what it is) of the 15 inch in my big theater room. Once the weather starts getting cold I'll be switching back to this hobby and this looks like a potential project idea.

In response to the thread ... I don't have any experience with the SVS unfortunately but I've loved the earthquake sub in my system. I'm in a market that doesn't have many places within easy driving distance you can properly demo higher end gear so had to do all my research online when I made the purchase but have never regretted the decision. They are really sensitive to positioning though (moreso than other subs I've had) if you want to get the really deep, deep pulses that make the floor feel like it's becoming fluid.

Great customer support too. I had a question about a tweak I'd read about ... not too long after buying the sub ... and called their support line to ask about it and the impact on warranty. Ended up on the phone with, think his name is Sal, the guy that actually designed the sub for over an hour. Funny guy with a nice dose of the crazy genius quality thrown in. The conversation strayed to the weather in VA, research he'd done for the military that he 'couldn't talk about' and other topics I can't recall.

    Ronnie,
I don't have an SVS, but I can definetly relate to the obssession part of this hobby and being too impatient to save up for things. For my sub I got a Mirage s12 for 400 bones without any regrets. There is also another phenomena at work here.... since I've never heard the SVS, I don't know what I'm missing.

If your impatience is killing ya and you need to get a sub ASAP then pull the trigger on the Earthquake and get the SVS down the road.

    CvillePolk,

The differences before and after the mod were not very drastic, but I was not expecting anything huge. Things seemed a little tighter, and I got rid of the little but of cabinet vibration I was having around 23hz. Besides those two things I really couldn't notice much of a difference...then again I am not much of a bass aficionado.
