Hi to all!!

Hi all.. just joined up and I thought I'd post a thread to say hi..

I just recently purchased a Nakamichi Sound Space 10 from an importer (they couldn't sell them due to the price) to replace my H/K & sony home theatre system. And I've just picked up a PSW 505 as well (unfortunately I can't get SVS subs in Australia.. or can I?)

The Nakamichi provides a decent staging and quality in music and HT usages but I found that the subs have a lot of port noise in loud bassy movies (eg. Master & Commander, etc.) which is why I decided to get a decent quality midrange sub. After researching around and reading heaps and heaps of reviews, I decided to go with the PSW 505 as I got a pretty good deal.

It's still in the car as I'm still at work but will definitely hook it up tonight and set everything up properly with an spl meter. Will post the result as soon as I can.

Once again, hi to all...

Hi all.. beautiful day here in Melbourne today..

Right.. Finally setup the psw 505 last night to go in with my Nakamichi SS 10.
I hooked up the subwoofer output from the nakamichi processor to the line in on the 505, set the crossover to approx. 100 hz and gain at about 40%. (this is after playing around with test tones and spl meter). I had to lower the sub level in the nakamichi so that the nakamichi subs don't become too porty (at higher volumes and bassy movies, the nakamichi subs (2 x 8") got a lot of port noise which annoys the crap out of me and the reason I wanted to get an external sub). Anyway, after a good hour trying to set it up properly I believe I had the best compromising setup.

I started off by listening to some DD and DTS demo discs and was happy with the way the 505 goes deep to the low frequencies. However, I couldn't feel the thump as I'd expected (I used to have an spl sound system in the car therefore the habit of loud thumping bass : ) But the fact that I set up my HT in the open living room area doesnt help either.

To sum it up, I rewatched the THX mastered Pearl Harbor last night and I was happy.. and the neighbours definitely know I'm at home.

So am I happy with the psw505? I guess for the price I got it (AUD$780), it would be very hard to find a subwoofer with similar built quality, loudness and depth.

I hope this has been a good reading : )
