I feel so happy to be able to post this, I must restrain myself to gather my composure!
Backdrop: Lost / changed jobs in Late December 2005. Opted for COBRA Insurance until I landed another position, due to the fact that my wife was pregnant with our second daughter. Because of my youth and lack of experience, COBRA never sent us a bill. Of course, if there is no bill on my desk, how can I pay it? *COBRA's fine print states quite clearly that they are not required to send a bill, and the employee is required to mail the check on a monthly basis to continue the coverage.* Actually COBRA did send out two bills, and both of those were promptly paid. I never even considered that they wouldn't send a third, or further bills.
Needless to say, when we were in the hospital May 11th, oohing and ahhing over our baby girl, I simply handed them my old insurance card. After checking with COBRA, the hospital stated that we weren't covered.... fast forward two weeks, of calling and demanding to know why were weren't covered, I learned about the small print mentioned above.
So, yes, to put it bluntly... I was screwed. The bill came in totaling $10,472.82 for the birth. I called the hospital and advised that I would have to work out a payment plan, because I didn't have anywhere near that kinda cash. The hospital send me a financial aid packet, which, swallowing my pride, I completed. They told me that they couldn't work out a payment plan unless there was a financial aid packet completed. So whatever.
Yesterday afternoon the mail comes. I'm working on my bathroom floor, when my wife walks in and says, "Guess what!"
I could tell she was excited. I had no clue what to guess.
"Tell me."
"The Hospital just wrote back."
I jumped up and grabbed the letter in her hand. "Mr. and Mrs K. This is to inform you that the... hospital... has met and reviewed your application for financial assistance. The committee has approved financial assistance for the following accounts: .... Your balance is now zero! The total amount approved for Charity Care assistance is, $10,472.82!!!!!
I couldn't help the tears from welling up in my eyes. We hugged and thanked God for the incredible blessing.
Miracles do happen. I'm living proof!
I had to share this. Times have been extremely rough over here the past 7 months, and this was just a gentle reminder that we are not alone in this world. God is good!

Never feel bad about needing the help, just pass on the knowledge learned to everyone you see in the same situation to pay it forward, and help them avoid the stress of a similar fate.

Congrats on your good fortune, and on the new baby.
It's just me, but instead of new audio equipment, when I got back on my feet there'd be a nice fat check headed to Charity Care. Or somebody who needs a miracle like you did.
I know it's fine, but you have to read the fine print. -
Cool Beans  . KARMA is real, don't ever doubt it
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -
