Is there anyone out there who has a set of large Polk
floor speakers that they wish to part with in
Australia? I would prefer SDA - SRS2's but would consider
any of the SDA series. Failing this, is anyone able to
suggest where I might source them here downunder?

Cheers.

Yeah, I remember him too. He needed some tweeters or something. He also had a big Mac amp if I remember correctly:confused:

Hey everyone, my name is Alex and I live in Sydney, Australia.
Im just trying to break into the world of Polk now!
I dont have any stereo equipment that I would be proud
enough to list in this forum currently. I am about to buy
a house of my own and have decided to get myself a set
of classic Polks before a mortgage and/or my girlfriend
destroys my financial life :) My association with Polk comes
from a friend who bought a pair (not sure which model)
way back in about 1985. They are THE best speakers I have
ever heard!! They are a fairly straight forward type, with
a single tweeter and crossover mounted on top of the box,
2 6.5 inch drivers and a passive radiator. So I started
to do some research and found your excellent forum! I would
love to own a pair of SDA - SRS2's. There is a pair on ebay
at the moment that nobody has bid on, starting at $500.
But I have NO idea how I will be able to get them to the
land of Oz, without paying thousands of dollars. Any ideas
on how much it might actually cost? Also I wanted to ask
which models people think are the best in the Polk range
    from that mid-80's era.

    Thanks!!

    Welcome to the forum, Alex.

Sounds like the RTA-12 series. Still solid performers. Those are my daily listeners with tube amplification.

I like the RTA-8s and the SDA-2s from the era as well.

    Alex,

Shipping doesn't have to cost an arm and leg. You should contact international shippers to discuss the matter. Have the rough size and weight info for them. You should have the speakers packed in crates to withstand the trip and there are companies here that will do that for you.

I know there are plenty of speaker buyers in Asia that have speakers shipped from far away places all the time.

If I can be of help, please let me know.

    Alex,

I checked out the pair you're interested in on eBay. The seller is getting a lot of bad info, they are not SDA SRS 2's and are not second generation. They are SDA SRS 2.3 and are 4th generation. The seller states that when pushing in on one driver that the others do not move. That shouldn't be and indicates a problem, perhaps a BIG problem. IMO, the seller is either an idiot or is just acting dumb. In any case, I wouldn't buy those speakers at any price.
