I am doing a research on a reasonable good turntable for my friend. The budget is about $1000.00. Please give me some recommendation. Thanks.

my favorites are Rega and VPI, MMF also has strong tables, you might have to go used for a grand if you need the whole she-bang.
I am told the Project table packages are very nice and they are well within your budget/

Thanks, RT. My friend and I are both new and a beginners in this type of players. My friend owns a Rega CD player, so I have a good brandname to begin with. What is the Project table package?

How about the new Marantz TT-15S1 (essentially a Clearaudio Emotion with Satisfy tonearm and a cartridge). It's a trifle more expensive than $1k but it looks to be head and shoulders above the under $1k crowd to me.

If he really just wants to "test the waters" (so to speak)....the Goldring GR 1.2 is an excellent starter. The cartridge and tonearm alone are worth the price to buy the whole table ($300). I picked this one up and am thouroughly pleased with it. I bought it from Audio Advisor. Here is the link:

Thanks everyone for your help. I'll start from here. The Marantz TT-15S1 looks good, too. My friend might like it best.
