OK this is probably a stupid question...but.
I'm wondering about speaker cables. My receiver (sony str-da2000es) does'nt take the speaker cable as it comes, I have to cut the cable and just feed the cable into the holes on the back of the receiver... This is the same with my polk center speaker and it's connection. I just wanted to make sure i was'nt doing anything wrong when making these connections.

Were the ends of the cable terminated with banana plugs, spades or anything else? There are others such as pins and bfa's but they're less common.
As long as you're keeping positive with positive and negative with negative it doesn't matter if you're using bare wire or some kind of termination. I personally use banana plugs because they're much handier to swap gear out if I want to. When you use banana plugs you will probably have to take out a small plug that covers the hole. -
I have those exact nanner plugs

Yup... I've had 'em. Blue Jeans Cable keeps them in supply, as does Parts Express. They're pretty heavy duty, and the floating slug makes for a tight fit.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I have a Sony 7100es and Im using the same banana plugs as shown above. Im using them on both the receiver and all speakers. They provide a nice and snug fit as well, perfect for the Sony ES line as the others have noted.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I've always just cut the end off the cable, and used the bare wire...
I've just purchased monster cable z2 reference ML-C10 cable for my center speaker.
(sorry, not sure how to add pictures,) would i be right in cutting off the end and just inserting the bare wire into the terminals?? I just want to make sure i'm getting the best connection for the best sound.. -
they say the best connection is bare wire, but I just choose to use the Banana Plugs, its just an easier life and if I do lose some quality Im sure its so minimal I cant tell. But yeah you should be able to cut(splice at the end) and insert the bare wire into the terminals.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

thnks for the response.I will just have to see what happens..the cable should arrive in a few days, so hopefully once connected i will here the difference.

getting that speaker wire into the Sony Es is somewhat difficult that is why I went with the B plugs. Let me know how this works out for you, check parts express they have various terminations that might work for you as wellShoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

If they're already terminated with nanners or spades I say just leave them that way. Using bare wire is supposed to be the best connection but i can't tell the difference. Bare wire also oxidizes over time so you'll have to keep cutting it back as well as if you swap out your speakers often.

so when i use the banana plugs,or spaded ends, do i just unscrew the nobs, and insert the pin into the hole, then just screw back the nobs??sorry for the stupidity, i have always just used bare wire...

get the banana plugs, unscrew them enough so the slug inside will slide down. Feed your speaker wire through and tighten the bottom up. Make sure your speaker terminals in the back of the receiver aretightened back up, insert the Banana plugs into the corresponding terminals and youre done.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!
