How would you describe the sound of this pre compared to a Dodd ELP that is similarly priced?

    Hi Roy,

I haven't heard the ELP, so I can't make a comparison. I can say, though, they are altogether two distinct circuit designs.

I fully concur with this quote from the Transcendent web site: "The preamp is dead quiet. Really dead quiet. No hum, no hiss, nothing. The result is a very musical, natural sound that is the complete absence of coloration. It's accurate and natural without being the least bit analytical."

    Hope that helps.

    Mike

The ELP isn't made anymore, what's out there is all there will ever be.

Roy, this is a no brainer, imo. The 12AU7 is one of my favorite driver tubes - there are a LOT of great tubes you can roll, for not a lot of scratch. The JAN 6189 is great, GE/RCA 5814 and 6680 (rarer). 7730's are an NOS Gold Pin that is highly regarded also.

Esoteric preamp as is, then throw the upgrades and tube options on top of it for a good bit under 5 bills? I'd be suprised if this lasts the evening.

    Cheers,
    Russ

I can't believe this wasn't sold within minutes at that price. Must be a slow night. :)

I can attest to the quality workmanship Mike puts into his kits. I have seen (and heard) them first hand and have been very impressed with every aspect of quality.

Thanks Chuck. Perhaps I should raise the price to that of the unassembled kit? :D I sold the SE OTL mono blocks on Audiogon, comparably priced to kit cost, in less than an hour.

If it had another set of outputs and another set of inputs, I'd be awfully tempted to experiment.

It's a six position Noble switch - three currently used. Twisted pair to the added input RCA's, pick up the ground common with the other RCAs, and you have four pair of inputs. Another pair of outputs is a simple parallel of the existing outs. Three feet of wire, two sets of RCAs, drill, done. ;)

Sorry for the hijack Mike...but this is curious. Must be a very new development since they are still listed on the Dodd website.

Can't believe this isn't sold yet! Between buying the motorcycle, and then the Rogue pre from Russ, and taking the kids on vacation this week, I am tapped out. Somebody buy this for crying out loud, what a deal! Maybe he should raise the price a couple of hundred so you think you're getting the good stuff!

Someone tell me how stupid I would be on a scale of 1 to 10 to not replace my ELP with this pre. Is it worth sleeping on the couch over?

To not buy this pre means you are undoubtedly the most stupid person on the face of this earth. Actually, stupid doesn't even start to describe your foolishness. Hows that? ;)

I lost the message, but someone expressed interest in my Dodd elp should I want to sell that. Would that person care to step up?

The Transcendent is totally rad btw.

Oh, I will. Don't worry about that. Need to compare the two before I arrive at my final opinions.
