PSW1000 at Tweeter
I stopped in at Tweeter today since I was driving by anyway and gave the LSI's a listen in their demo room. They didn't have an amp hooked up to them, but had a Dennon 4606 powering them. The LSI's sounded great, but they didn't have the RTi's in the same room, so an A-B comparison was difficult. I was interested in giving them a good listen on a receiver just out of curriosity (pardon poor spelling...have had a few beers) The LSI's sounded a little thin in the middle, but not bad though, of course! What I am getting to is the $1200 PSW1000 sub. I don't know if it was the setup in the Dennon, or what, but I hated the sub. It definately moved a lot of air, but I like my $400 Velodyne sub much better. The 1000 seemed completely inappropriate for music for one thing. In adjusting the volume control on the front of the sub I could not get the sound to blend with the LSI's. The sound was either REALLY "boomy" or if I turned it down I didnt' get much bass at all. I couldn't get a tight bass drum sound or decent bass guitar. a
The sub was definately ...uh...effective... in the movie scenes, but again seemed more like a cheap car sub trying to make a lot of noise rather than trying to reproduce the rummble of an explosion.
What is the deal here? This is my first listen of any of the higher end Polk subs. Are they really this bad, or was the Dennon setup poorly? Anyone have similar experiences? I didn't expect it to be perfect, but thought if would sound better than what I have.

Bad room. Probably stuck in the corner. If there is one thing I've learned about tweeter is that every speaker you buy there will sound better in your own room. Boominess at the price of the PSW1000 is almost always due to bad source or location.Lovin that music year after year.
