Soccer wimps

Im sure a lot have heard about the "head butt" that the one soccer player did to another and got kicked out of the final match of the World Cup. He was their best player and probably cost them the game.

When I heard about it, I thought he shouldve been kicked out for that.....then I saw the video.

OMG! What a complete panzy! The dude head butted him in the chest. Thats it!!! And not even that hard! The dude falls on the ground rolling around in pain like he'd just been shot! What a joke!

The best part is the announcers that are acting like Zidane just stabbed him with a Bowie knife.

Its because of this panty waist behavior that nobody in America cares about soccer.

Please. That was the equivilant of a 7-on-1 gang fight with knives in soccer terms. Soccer players fall to the ground in agony when they are barely grazed by someone of the other team. All of which is, like you said, exactly why soccer will never catch on in the states.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I understand why they do it, theyre trying to draw the penalty, but its still pretty sad.

Hockey players do it to but not to this extent AND they aint skeered to brawl with somebody at the drop of a hat. Plus they take so much physical abuse, nobody could EVER call them panzies, but soccer players might as well be wearing dresses.

It's ridiculous. I tried checking out the World Cup and got so turned off when I saw what drama queens they are.

Do they grossly overreact at times? Yes. There's usually a reason. When you're playing a better conditioned or deeper team, your team needs that time to rest. Sometimes they need to flop, writhe, or take a stretcher ride in order to get that call, or start getting calls from the officials. We see similar behavior in basketball and baseball. The big difference is that the officials / umpires in those games are typically closer to the action, so the actions of the player are typically more subdued.

Portugal was the worst IMO. And all of the flopping and whining, being carted off on a stretcher, etc., does slow down the action. But in the final, and when you watched the best teams playing well, there was far, far less of this sissy behavior.

I didn't / don't like it any more than anyone else, but I don't think it's as bad as some have made it out to be.

It's funny to see a lot of the European players in the NBA trying to import this "behavior". Take Vlade "Floppy" Divac, for example....

The king of 'em.... He played for the Lakers in the early to mid nineties, and eventually made his way to the Sacramento Kings. It was as if the lane itself had an ionized force field surrounding it, because whenever he stepped to close to it, it was as if a sniper from the rafters had taken aim and plugged him dead in the chest.

Refs got wise to him though, and stopped giving him the calls. His appeals were even more pathetic than his infamous "flops". It was like he was pleading for the life of his children....:D

I understand the need for penalties and time etc. but I can't stand bad sportsmanship or lying. Sports are a little like civilized battle and there is no honor in that for me. It degrades the noble athletic spirit.

Good call on Divac. Man that guy was a whiner.

Forgive my ignorance, but I don't believe I can recall anytime where baseball players fake it for time or a penalty call. The only thing I can think of is when the coach visits the mound to give the pitcher in the bullpen more time to warm up. The players are hardly in need of rest nor are they looking for a penalty call.

they may dive in hockey, but they usually don't act like they've been shot...plus if the ref thinks it was a dive, the divee can get a penalty for diving..
