7.1 Channel DVD player?

Hey guys,
I'm working on my 7.1 system. Right now I have Rti10s, Rti6 Rears, Fxi5 Sides, CSi5. I got the 10s running on two outlaw monoblocks. Until I can get an amp for the other 5, I have them running on a Yamaha HTR-5890, the brains of my system.
Everything sounds great, but I want to get into SACD and DVD-A audio. I'm embarrassed to say, but my current DVD player is the ol' Xbox.
Do I need to get a DVD player that does 7.1? or does my Yammie take care of that? I figure the DVD player must be involve in the processing somewhere.
Any suggestions on a good DVD player?

I don't recall seeing any SACD's or DVD-A's that were greater than 5.1. Since there are no movies or music with a 7.1 sound track you find a player that will offer 7.1 surround sound. Your receiver or preamp can decode a 6.1 signal (toslink or digital coax required) and use any one of the different 7.1 DSP modes currently avail;ablr. Dolby PrologicIIx seems to be the crowd favorite. I use it and really like the results.
Keep in mind that to listen to DVD-A and /or SACD you're going to need to have a receiver or preamp that has the cooresponding analog inputs to match the SACD/DVD-A player. Yes there are some players that can be connected via a single cable, typically these are limited to the same brand of receiver as the player itself....Denon to Denon, Pioneer to Pioneer, etc. -
will a fiber optic cable work?

got it toslink is fiberoptic

blugh... only if you like insanely slow response times and mediocre upscaling.
denon 2910...doneNever kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.
Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -
For the cost of the 2910 I would get the Toshiba, I can deal with the 40 sec response times and superb upscaling, let alone he will have an upgrade to HD DVD and save some bucks in the process of doing so. Its a no brainer, HD A1.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

You've obviously never seen a 2910 setup correctly then. Otherwise you'd laugh at the HD DVD players of today. Hopefully they fix the fact they suck in the next generation.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Doesnt matter, I still wouldnt buy into a 2910, its old technology. Even though there may be some bugs in the new format players its still a no brainer. And for the price of what it costs to buy into, I would rather take the chance on it. just my opinion, seems like others agree as well.

RTi10's Up Front
CSi5 Center
RTi6's Rear Surround
Furman RA-1210:rolleyes: -
Man, I think I'm just going to wait for technology to iron itself out. Maybe I'll hold off on a dedicated DVD player and just buy an xbox 360. Anybody got any experience with the DVD or Music playback on the 360?
-
There have been allot of updates for the 360 to iron out a few little bugs and what not concerned with DVD playback. It does have awesome playback and seems to do its job well done. If you do get the 360, buy Call of Duty 2 and make sure you connect using a Toslink Cable. Look me up under NWA R1 Rydder so I can chin check you on COD2.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

old technology... interesting seeing 1. upconversion has only been around a few years and 2. the "new" technologies aren't even really out IMO. Sure Toshiba has their POS out but it is a **** and doesn't even process the new audio formats or output 1080p like they claim it will. Piece of S***... Denon 2910, tried and true.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
