Duke's fan, here is a very nice album, collaboration with Brian Bromberg, whom I think is THE best bassist that I know of, check the other thread on his album.

Recording is top notch, easy for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Dig deep if you're a George Duke fan for the one or two albums (available on cd) that he recorded in the late 60's as The George Duke Trio featuring Jean-Luc Ponty. Pre-synthesizer stuff, with George Duke on Fender Rhodes, a bass player and drummer. One of them is live. Great stuff. They're on World Pacific Jazz (the vinyl). Zappa sat in one night. George Duke ended up being one of his sidemen for years, and another result was the album "King Kong/Jean-Luc Ponty Plays the Music of Frank Zappa", also on World Pacific Jazz.

I have all this stuff on cd, so I know it's out there.

Edited to say I was wrong about one of the titles. It is called The "Jean-Luc Ponty Experience"/with The George Duke Trio. Recorded live at Thee Experience. It is/was available from One Way Records (the cd that is). At the time, Duke's electric bass player was John Heard, and the drummer was Dick Berk. I'm thinking those two guys were part of Flim and The BB's, which bored the snot out of me. The original vinyl was released in July 1969, and that's about when I got it.

A word of caution, this is NOT smooth jazz. They were NOT in a mellow mood. These guys were young and hungry animals that could play real jazz, and were part of the jazz/rock/fusion beginnings.
