I should be enjoying these beauts within the next couple of days. Holy crap.. am I excited:D :D

If these babies image half as well as they're supposed to, I'm set for an awesome experience. I considered the Magnepan MMG's as well, but realized that the one thing that would make the WAF absolutely plummet, would be constantly moving speakers around the room. Plus, the severely limited sweet-spot worked against them.

So, the Arros are on their way... in maple no less!!! Talk about Christmas in July:)

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. That's a very nice set of speakers.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Thanks Doro!

You know, you almost had me jumping in bed with the Maggies. My listening room was just too confined, so I don't believe I could have given them the TLC they deserve.

They would have just pissed you off anyways. If you ever go Magnepan, start with the 1.5/1.6QR series.

Congrats Zombie. The Arro's are very, very special performer's when done right. Keep them about 1.5-2ft from a wall (no more or less), keep them spread far from each other with enough toe in to where the tweeter is *almost*, but not quite facing your ears.

    Thanks for the input...

Just to let you guys know, Zero helped me out quite a bit behind the scenes in making this decision. I figured he'd be the one to ask about Totems, and he certainly provided some valuable input.

Looks like tomorrow is the official drop date:)

so burn a candle for the good folks at UPS

Anyone here have any experience with mass loading? These "floorstanders" weigh in at a hefty 12lbs each, so it is recommended that mass loading is experimented with in order to provide stability, as well as to dig a little deeper in the bass department (though it's my understanding that the amount of bass that this speaker puts out is eerie relative to it's size and its single 4 1/2" driver).

Several suggestions have been made on other forums, along with Totem's website (dry sand, lead shot, etc.)

Just wondering if anyone here has anything to add?

I put lead shot in my Von Schweikert VR4 Jrs and it tightened up the bass somewhat. I certainly don't worry about the dogs knocking them over now.

I think if I even looked at the Arros crosseyed they'd fall over:D
Lead shot was my first inclination, but someone on another forum was saying that sand was a better option from an SQ perspective. As I really don't see how it would make much of a difference, I may just flip a coin...

Don't do SAND. Sand holds moisture, aka mold. Use lead shot.

Thanks and more thanks. I want to be completely on the "up and up" before I dump 50lbs of used kitty litter into these speakers:D

As for the beaks, I'm definitely open to trying 'em. The many debates I have encountered surrounding their effectiveness has been at the very least, entertaining.

Steve -- this is the first time I've heard anything like this in reference to using sand. It makes all the sense in the world though. Totem also recommends silica sand, but wouldn't this be rather abrasive?

Don't know bubba, maybe less dust with silica? I would think that lead shot is denser by volume as well, and would be easier to remove if you ever had to.

I can't imagine what a mess sand would have made as I emptied out the Vons and boxed 'em up. No way for me.

There's not a person on this planet that could tell the difference between lead shot or sand....use the shot, it's just cleaner and easier to reverse.

Now that I've thought about it and read up on it some more, I'm going to see how all fares without mass loading before attempting it. I was wondering how extending the lower frequencies would impact the speaker's mid and upper ranges, and 'lo and behold -- Vince at Totem points out that "over loading has a tendency to reduce overall image size".
If I still need a tad more bass, or the suckas keep trying to blow away -- than I'll add a little at a time.

If (and probably when) I do, it will be lead shot. Thanks guys.:)

Okay.... so the speakers arrived and whatever was mass loaded into em -- I'm thinking sand -- has come loose and is all over both tweeters and drivers. I am freaking out right now!!!!!! You can tell he shook it all out, but there was enough residual to make a mess. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!
