Just got into the high resolution audio formats and have been able to find most of the usually recommended disks: "Rumors," "Hotel California," S. Dan's "Gaucho," lots of Diana Krall, etc.

Saw 3 titles of interest at Best Buy that I already have in redbook CD: Nora Jone's "Come Away with Me, ELVIS 30#1s, and Carol King's "Tapestry." I don't remember seeing these on recommended lists. Are the mixes good enough in these titles to buy the high resolution disks?

Thanks,
Trees

Roxy Music - Avalon and the pricy Sarah Brightman - Time to Say Goodbye (import). I downloaded both albums before buying to make sure I liked the music, but both are highly recommended all over the place. O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack is nice as well.
    Dodd Audio ELP [ Tubes ] // Harman Kardon AVR330 // Parasound HCA-1203A // Denon DVD-2900
Polk Audio LSi9, LSiC, LSi 7 // HSU STF-2 // Signal Cable Interconnects (SG BW/A2/MP)

I'll check them out. I did like the soundtrack of the movie ". . . Brother Where. . ." a lot.

The Nora Jones SACD has a stereo SACD mix that was derived from the CD master. Could've been better. The multi-channel SACD mix, however, was from the master tapes though. I heard it's very good.

    Carole King SACD....highly recommended.

    Can't comment on Elvis 30 #1 Hits DVD-A. I have it but I don't have a DVD-A player. :(

    Other hi-rez titles I'd recommend....

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms (DualDisc with DVD-A or the imported SACD)
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (SACD)
Duran Duran - Astronaut (SACD - the band is in top form)
Dave Brubeck - Time Out (SACD)

Already got the Dire Straits and Pink Floyd on order from Amazon. Total of $28 and free shipping. Not bad.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll order the Tapestry and Nora Jones multi-channel.

Still interested in feedback on the Elvis #1s. The redbook cd is supposed to be remastered, but something doesn't sound quite right. I actually like earlier versions better. Might just buy the DVD-A or SACD (can't remember which) from Best Buy.

Alison Krauss Live with Union Station and Heart Alive in Seattle will give you all the tingles of suberb recordings.

I also enjoy Santana--Abraxas and Stevie Ray with Albert King I think its called In Session. The SRV, Cant Stand the Weather is out of print but if you can find one its great. Kebmo has some stuff out that is outstanding.
Most all the Elton John is enjoyable.

"Can't Stand the Weather" SACD is still available from Japan Sony. Expensive though. On the other hand, cheaper than buying one from ebay.

Ditto that RT1. The Allison Kraus is fantastic! I would add Ray Charles "Genius Love's Company"

Just to elaborate on PT some....I have their In Absentia dvda, and it is pretty cool. I haven't picked up Deadwing yet, which got surround album of the year awhile back. I've been listening to the Signify cd though, and it is completely incredible! Definitely one you drop the lights down for and enjoy your favorite beverage.

I have the Elvis #1's, it's okay but not nearly as good as stuff like DSOTM, Dire Straits etc. Elvis's material was recorded fairly primitively, it sounds good on dvd audio but not great. You may be able to find it fairly cheap used or maybe on ebay.

Well, OK, I guess that is what credit cards are for.

Thanks all. Great info. Just received "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Brothers in Arms." Spectacular!

All the recommendations will be useful for my prowls through used music stores. The SACDs and DVD-As I picked up used were $7-$10.

One thing I've found is to take the warnings about tracks not playing, etc. when buying used with a grain of salt. For example my local store plays uses a DVD player, not a universal player. The high-resolution side/layers have worked fine in spite of warnings to the contrary.

    Thanks again all.

Others I would rank as spectacular:
    Roxy Music-Avalon
    Steely Dan-Gaucho
    Beck-Sea Change

Also the new Pink Floyd 'Pulse' dvd is fantastic and includes the entire
Dark side of the moon performed live.
    Keep charging! :)
