Thinking about getting 2 outlaw 2200 monoblocks and using my old yamaha 2-channel receiver as a preamp. The Yamaha states that the pre's output is 1v. is that enough? The outlaws say 1.7v for maximum output. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Will it work?Yeah, but not at the amps full capacity.Your yamaha must be pretty old since most AVR's have 2+ volts now a days. Most higher end ones
anyway.Dump that yammy and get a decent pre amp or avr.Either one can be had for around 500 clams. Also pay attention to the amount of gain
supplied by your pre amp if you go that route.HT SYSTEM-

Does that mean say I'll only get 125 watts out? What about the noise floor? Will I hear more hissing during quiet passages?

You'll be fine. If you had 1.7volt output on the yammie, when you set the volume knob at 0db, then you'd be putting out the full wattage of the Outlaws. That volume knob will go well past 0db and you'll probably never set it that high anyway. At some point down the road, you might want to get a real pre- but no worries for now.
For awhile, I set the input sens on my brystons at 4 volt to get a finer control on the volume knob and didn't have any issues.Gallo Ref 3.1 : Bryston 4b SST : Musical fidelity CD Pre : VPI HW-19
