I have a 2004 Mazda 6 with the steering wheel audio controls. I want to put in an aftermarket stereo, but don't want to lose this function. Can this be done?

PAC makes the module. You just have to have a head unit that has a remote.

    Pac Swi-x

They also make specialized ones for hard wiring in some eclipse, pioneer, and alpine head units. I would assume the response to be quicker than that of IR.
