I'm looking at the Onkyo TX-SR702 & 703. Both from 6ave.com. I'm not interested in the I-pod or XM radio features. So with that in mind and only $65. separeting the two, which would be the better choice? I'm going to use it with a pair of RTi-8's and a 25-39 PCi sub. Also has anyone here bought from 6ave.com? Are they good to buy from?

Thanks

Kajun, welcome. Both of the units that you're considering meet the basic requirement for all receiver/amplifiers that they amplify transparently without adding any audible sonic characteristics of their own. They should have more than enough maximum power capacity for your use, especially since the sub amp will be taking over much of the lowest bass burden, in a type of active biamping arrangement. So, if the added features of the 703 or its different front panel appearance aren't attractive to you, sure, save the extra $66 for something(e.g. more CDs)that'll actually increase your listening enjoyment.

As far as 6th Ave. , yes I've bought from them in the past and wouldn't hesitate to do so again, but there are good and bad experiences possible with any seller. Check out the reseller ratings and note that they have above average customer satisfaction.

Hi Kajun and welcome to the forum. I agree with John, both are good choices and both have preouts should you want to add an amp w/ add'l. speaks down the road.

I've bought audio gear from their retail stores not from their online site. As with any website retailer, check their return policy.

    Just a note.
The 703 model is newer. Very soon the 704 will be available.
So if you go with the 702 it will be 2 years old.
