How come it seems like every new console takes a good year before it gets some solid titles under it's belt? The 360 has been really thin lately for games. They started off okay, but it's been a span of a few months since anything all that interesting has come out. I would think that devs would be all over these systems sooner. I realize it takes a while to unlock the full potential of any gaming platform, but this is a bit ridiculous. It was like this for PS1, PS2, PSP, and XBox.

That's what's nice about PC's, the games are usually out on the PC a year before they are on a console.

I don't agree with that statement. Same can be said for console games that take 1-2 years to make it to the PC. Halo? GTA: Vice City? GTA: San Andreas?

Thats not exactly true. Ps2: MGS 2 and GTA 3. XBOX: of course: Halo. N64: SM64. PS1 and PSP, I didn't have when released so I don't know. Most systems come out with great games at launch then don't have anything good planned for another year. Usually, you get the best games come out between september and early January, since thats when people (mostly parents) will buy the games. So developer come out with crappy games to fill in the hole. Don't worry there demi though, as soon as halo 3 comes out, you won't be bitching anymore.:D

I agree with you to an extent man, but I would expect a good lot of say 30 real good games. A lot of this stuff is mediocre. Like today -- I just bought Rockstar Table Tennis & Lord of the Rings II: Battle for Middle Earth for the 360. I haven't played them yet, but when I get bored I want games to choose from.

Don't get me wrong, I have a good lot of games I love so far, but I'm just personally surprised there aren't more. The XBox 360 is the first system I didn't buy right at launch.

Nintendo (My parents), Super Nintendo, Sega, PS1, Dreamcast, N64, PS2, and XBox I bought all on launch day when they came out. During the PS2 and XBox days I played PC way more, and I still do love PC, but without getting into that debate -- it's not as fun as the 360, and I am sure the PS3.

Launch titles for the 360 were weak.

When was the last system you bought that ever had thirty great games at launch? Never happened and never going to happen.

You just have to wait. I know for PS2 it was at least a full year before a handful of quality titles were released.

As far as games coming out for PC before consoles that is very untrue. The only bad part is that devs are just making half assed ports to the 360. Some do come out for PC first and vice-versa however it is all dependent on the dev.

Indeed, it's just surprising more devs aren't on top of that, or the console makers aren't paying devs of other companies more to get them some hot titles right off the bat.

    Think about it...

Why would you release a MAJOR* title in the mid year?

I am willing to bet the most games/consoles get sold around Christmas time. Just because thats when everyone is buying crap...

I almost garuntee you that Halo 3 will come out in November or December of 07.

Gears of War = Nov of 06.

Well I would say LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth 2 is a big release...and the game rocks. what about Ncaa 07, Madden 07, Prey (this week), A great poker game in september, a new Rainbow six, and Splinter Cell.

Chrome Hounds is in another week, I would say the xbox has been a little stale, but now you are going to see some great games. I thought Table Tennis was great, Moto GP, and Hitman were very solid releases this past month. What we maybe used to also is that with the Xbox, they would release at least two-three games a week, right now it is one game a week.

I didn't mean to say that they're all terrible. It just seems slow. A lot of the games are mediocre.

Speaking of Chromehounds...how is that, and how do you have achievements for that game already? I was going to ask you that last night when we were both on.

I believe I read an artical on this site about alot of developers loosing their jobs because the market is too thin right now. If this is so, that that could explain why games are being released one per week like some one above stated. This way the people that must have the new hits end up buying all of them because there is no decision to be made. But on the other hand their are people like me that hold out till the big price drop for the X-box 360 before I will buy.

Me too, This system IMO is not worth the $400 they ask for. $300 is the MOST I would spend on any system.

It it's not worth $400 it wouldn't have been a virtually sold out for like 4 months.

It's a great system. The value of anything is what people are willing to pay for it.

Well to some people, like me, $400 is way to much to spend on a video game system. And quite frankly, I just don't play video games as much as I used to anymore to spend that much. The only two games I have played probably in the past three monthes have been smash brother melee with my buds from time to time, and zelda: ocarina of time for the n64(I'm trying out the master quest for the first time).

Here is what I have to say about the price on the consoles...

I will pay whatever price there is...

1 Month after Halo 3 is released.

1 Month after it is released, Im going to be on the 360 like a fat kid on cake.

I want the game, but I also dont want to have to deal with lines, price increases, and shortages...

I just want to walk in the store, and buy a Halo 3 game (hopefully collectors edition) and walk out in a matter of 2 minutes.

Get Gears of War. The demo video from E3 looks absolutely sick. Looks like someone is finally using the power of the 360.

Then Pre-Order it, as stupid as it may sound pre-ordering things are the best way to get things without waiting.

As for why good things don't get released right away, most developers take longer than they expect to develop a game. It's difficult to start on a new console. Usually the devlopers don't know the actual specs for the console they are programming for until a few weeks before launch. Sony, Nintendo and MS change the specs around until it's workable for them to launch. It's the new system to work with, different conventions, new Operating System, etc. that usually holds most programmers back, they have to get the system, and tweak their games accordingly, and most can't do it in time to make a good game.
