Need help with Sub choice

Thanks in advance for all your advice. I have $2000.00 in the budget to start replacing my HT that got a little wet. So far I've decided on TX-SR703 reciever,a pair of RTi-8's and either a Velodyne DPS-10 or SVS PB10-NSD. It's going in a 20 x 20 room with a cathedral ceiling that opens on one side to a 16 x 18 dining/foyer area with 9' ceiling. I'm not expecting to rock the house with this, but I need something better than the $40. boom box I'm using now. As money allows I'll upgrade. I can't audition the SVS sub locally so I'm looking for opinions on which sub to get.

    The SVS PB10 can go much lower that the Velo DPS10.

    However, you may need a bigger sub for that room. Check around on prices for the Onk (ie onecall.com) and see if you can free up more cash for the biggest SVS you can afford.

    I would also vote the way of the SVS. If you don't mind used you might be able to pick up a larger sub for that size room. Keep your eyes open in the FS section, ebay, and mostly www.audiogon.com.

    -1 for the SVS. I used to have one and it just didn't blend into my room very well. I could always tell where it was when it hit in a movie, and it sounded boomy for music. I would demo the Velodyne DPS-10 and see if you like it. I ended up with a velodyne and am going to keep it. I am just not a big fan or ported subs.

    Thanks for the quick replys. I went to the SVS website and did some reading and I'm back with more questions. Is there a big difference between the ISD and NSD drivers? Would a 25-31 PCi or 20-39 PCi work better at filling the room. My use will be 80% music.

    The "+" models are definitely worth the extra coin. I ran a 25-31 PC+ in a large listening room, no problems at all.

    I have the SVS pb10-isd in my theater, which is 13'x24' and am pleased with the sound. For the money it is a great sub. It has good extension and a good overall frequency response. My room did require some acoustical treatments and bass traps to tame the response, but that is a property of the room and not the sub.

    According to the guys at SVSound, there is no markable performance difference between the 10 isd and nsd, just a few changes to the mounting baffle and they now make the drivers in house. However, there is supposed to be a performance difference between the 12 isd and nsd, thats why they were offering the 12 nsd to those who had purchased the 12 isd drivers.
