Hello I was wondering if someone could possibly recommend what brand and what gauge of speaker wire they would recommend. Thank you

Here we go again. Not you redwing.
I personally buy speakers cables from a company that just makes cables. A little more money, but for my ears the sound is much better.

I use Carrol SuperFlex (12 ga) from HomeDepot. With the recent increase in global copper prices the price has increased from the $.44/ft that I paid a few years ago. I believe PartsExpress.com carrys it as well.

Its the smaller the number the "thicker" the wire correct? Why the thin wire then?

I use 10 for the fronts and 14 for the surrounds. If you are on a budget, Cobalt Cable makes a very decent product.

    Redwing,
I have 2 lengths of cables (I think they are about 20 ft) 12G terminated with banana plugs. You pay the shipping (Canada Post) from Yellowknife to Toronto and they are yours. Call it an intro to the Polk forum.

Honestly I am not sure first time doing this, but I was thinking between 50-75 but I also need to get 2-3 HDMI cable as well and I will need probably about 35 feet of speaker cable.

I use Kimber 4pr for my mains and I have 16awg AR for my rears.
I started with cable from HD 12awg but after a while did not like it very much, too stiff and didn't do much for me.

Check all the "regulars" Kimber, Audioquest, Analysis Plus, etc, etc...at your price point maybe Kimnber 4PR or Audioquest Type 4? Also look at Analysis Plus' 12awg oval braid...

Look into Zebracables.com I was surprised at the improvement over my Monster cables, and very reasonably priced.
