Toshibas A1, excellent upscaling and HD-DVD.If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent. -
Thanks Ron-P, that is an awesome HD-DVD player I was looking to get something a little cheaper, around 150-200. So far the reviews on that aren't good enough for me personanlly to spend 400-600 on a DVD player

Oppo 970HD $149 + shipping.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

+ 1 on the Oppo 970. At your price range this will do the trick. Not only HDMI, but SACD, and DVD-Audio as well. Best bang for the buck.Main theater: Paradigm Studio 100's v4 L/R, CC690 Center, ADP 590 x4 Surrounds. Dual Outlaw LFM-EX-1's, Yamaha Aventage RX-A1010 as Processor, Anthem PVA-7 Amp
Secondary System: Polk RTi 6 L/R, CSi3, Center, FXi3 x4 Surrounds, Def-Tech Supercube II, Pioneer Elite VSX-23 Receiver -
Here is a discussion of the Oppo on this forum:

I just got a Samsung DVD hd860. Upconversion to 720 using a HDMI cable.
For video, it's great. I haven't tried it on audio yet. $102 at BB.
The cable was more expensive than the player!"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
if that's your budget, you're wasting your money. Either start with a denon 1920 or just run regular progressive scan. By going cheaper, you're getting such a cheap video scaler, it would look better running comp vid than upconverting it to 720/1080. When a cheap processor tries to create information that isn't there, it does so in a very pixelated and distorted fashion. Spend a few extra bucks or waste the dough.Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.
Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener. -
Just get a sony DVPNS75H and an HDMI cable from Monoprice for 20 bucks or so. No need to waste money on a Monster HDMI cable.Receiver Yamaha 3070 *Emotiva xpa5 * Behringer iNuke 6000dsp *Monster Cable HTS 3500 -- line conditioner * Panamax 5300 * Apple 4K * Panasonic UB820 * JVC NX5 * Silver Ticket thin bezel 120”
LSIM - Fronts 707 * Center 706c * Sides 702 * Rear 703 *FP RC85i * RP RC65i * Sub (2) SI HT18 -
I agree with Jeremie...I got the Sony DVPNS85H same as the 75h but plays 5 dvds. The only reason I got it over the 75 is that it was cheaper with a rebate from CC.

No offense intended, but have you actually seen an Oppo in action? It is more than capable of holding its own against much pricier players. Don't knock a player based solely on price... -
I can say I have not personally seen the Oppo but a buddy of mine had one and hated it. He didn't like the picture via DVI all to well and the audio/video sync was way off (but I like kung-fu movies so it wouldn't bother me haha j/k). He sold it and got a Denon 1920 and said it not only looked better but the sound was phenominally better. He was using an older 55" mitsu CRT (preMexico construction).Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.
