 this is actually a 2 part post: 1st, last night i get home. the wife & kid are out at a movie. i got me some prime listening for the next 2 hours! so, i fire up the marantz, get some snackage and beverage. i started listening at moderate levels, then turned it up to 10 o'clock. which is more than enough for the man cave. about 4 songs into that volume level, i'm marvelling about how good this 30+ year old beast sounds. i was listening to an LP recorded to CD. it sounded like somebody took the tone arm and dragged it across the record. only on the right channel. but, it wasn't the recording. arrrrghhh! no burning smells so maybe she's fixable.:o

part 2: i gave away my closet rcvr a while ago. so i thought i would try the sonic t amp i bought for the bedroom. you know what???? this thing is good! i'm only running on batteries too! soundstage is great! volume is all i need. bass is slightly off. from what i hear though that should improve with the wall wart. i recommend this little amp highly. it really drives my sda2b's very well!

i guess i shouldn't feel so bad about the marantz. i really used it ALOT! sometimes i would worry about using it too much. but, it sounds so good. so until i can get it repaired, the sonic t is rocking the man cave:D

There are a lot of good Marantz 2270's on eBay. You should have no trouble replacing it. Reoairing it is also an option. If your not a do it yourself guy, this can be a little expensive. I love my vintage Marantz gear. Sorry about your loss.:(

check the fuses, outside and in. My old Sansui Model 8 had fuses on the inside of the unit too, and had one blow. sounds simple, but might be worth a look.

with the t amp. run, dont walk, to a store and get a better power source. I use a 12V 1500 Ma wall wart and it does well. I heard a 12v battery or a seperate power source is even better. at least do the wall wart, it is leaps and bounds better than the batteries.
