Wyoming Trip...#15

It sure does suck catching all these trout in an hour, but someone has to do it. If you wanna fish Wyo....I'm your man...well, actually my homeboy Ed is your man The location is the Medicine Bow National Forest, Hog Park, Wyoming.
I took a couple pictures of the historical stop between Encampment and Colorado Springs. The stagecoach stop was a full service location, meaning fresh horses, doctor, food, sleep and whores...well probably one of those. The whole place is like 22x14 max, and was a major stop over the Medicine Bow, Sierra Madre. You may notice the hand hewn logs...that's real man stuff. The drive to Hog Park is over one hour from Encampment...can you imagine what it would have been like on stagecoach?
The "Cowboy" is a longtime family friend from WV, Bruce Wiley. My father is originally from Kingwood, WV and Bruce is a childhood friend, fellow Vietnam Veteran and a retired Coal Miner. I capitalized that because that's a REAL MANS job if there ever was one. He joined us on the "Man Trip" about 3 years ago and he is an individual who must be met in person to actually describe, he's solid. Bruce currently owns a barbershop in his hometown of Kingwood, WV...AND cuts hair. I'm as afraid of him with scissors as I am of my father with his Diabetes checker....long story.
Ed "Mountain Man" Kennaday, visionquesttraders is a Wyoming native and another family friend. If you want to track/fish Western WYO...he's your man. This crazy SOB has been face to face with alot of animals that I think are neat, but actually bite and eat you. He's pure mountain man, and also runs the regional "Rendezvous" event that brings people nationwide to live and trade, period style. Black powder, living in teepees, bartering, deer skins....everything that should normally scare a city slicker. That's hardcore. I'm planning on doing the Rendezvous next year, with shorts and camera...they may kick my ****. This is being posted now so you know where I am....keep me safe CP
I usually do the Man Trip to WYO for the COW PIE OPEN. It's a 9 Hole golf tourny played in a cow pasture/field/clusterfu*k with beer coolers at every hole...4wheeler "Shot Girl" riding around, and general mayhem. It's essentially a charity event, supported by the local establishments...Mangy Moose Saloon, Bear Trap Cafe, Pine Lodge...to name a couple local haunts. I actually won a couple years ago as it's a blind pair event...but I assure you, it wasn't me who carried the win.
This years' visit was the Woodchopper's Jamboree. This is like the ESPN stuff you see with folks using crazy chain saws to cut crazy large wood, throw axes, climb and chop poles, rodeo, etc.....it's unreal. There is something inherently not cool about a woman who can throw an axe....accurately.
If you have a chance to do one of these events....anywhere, please do, it's really neat and alot of fun.
I've been traveling to WYO for a long time and if I was a shutterbug, would have more pictures, but it's almost old hat to me. I fail to realize that some of you fellow audionuts may in fact enjoy some actual reality....well, next time. I'll dig up some history and get them posted later.

The Trout are Rainbow, Splake, Brown, Cutthroat and Brook....all lake driven, all worm. We usually shoot the creeks and rivers for Brookies, but this spot is so good...we skipped it this year.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? I drove from Boston to Portland (Oregon) once, and went through Wyoming. Beautiful area... everywhere you look looks like a postcard. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
There's a long drive for you...jesus.
-
Meh, I enjoyed it. Got to see a lot of the country that I would never otherwise get to see. IE Minneapolis, Mount Rushmore / Sturgis / Deadwood, Wyoming (including Yosemete and watching Old Faithful erupt). I strongly recommend that everyone take at least one cross-country road trip in thier lives...
I also drove from Boston to Phoenix (and back)... not sure which one's a longer drive....If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
I've been all over the country, but never did it in one fell swoop. Too much for me. Driving to Monterey, CA from Milwaukee was enough for me. All the places you mention are great, and everyone should go. My next stop for new territory is going to be Alaska, but who knows when that will happen.

Play and have fun Mark. Play safe too.

I've done Fly but I'm not trying to have an bonding experience with myself and the fish, that scares me, so standard fishing is just as much fun for me.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Niner - No I didn't drive, or alot of people would be dead and I would be on the news.
