My cat's front right leg could be fractured. I am freaking out.

both front legs appear to feel the same, there is no apparent swelling. He walks on the leg but tenderly, it's not like he's walking on 3legs only. However, he won't let me touch it.. I called the vet offices and they're quoting me like over $200 or something, and I do not have the funds for that.

For any cat owners out there, what do I do? I'm afraid to gigger up a self-made splint in the fact that might make it worse!

You don't want to ask me, my poodle (rest his soul) had $1200 back surgery when a slipped disk caused temporary paralysis. The operation was successful, he lived to 18 years. He was 6 when the surgery occured.

You could always sell off some of your audio equipment! :p

Seriously, mine once had a splinter between the pads on her foot- she was limping around all over the place. Without a trip to the vet, you're probably gonna need some help, though. Or a pair of heavy leather gloves. ;)
    Worth checking out, IMO.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Explain your financial situation to the vet, maybe they will work out a payment plan with you.

I think amputation is the only recourse at this juncture.

James Arnold the Vet at Harmony Heights in Yadkinville.
He is our new Vet now after the other one wanted to amputate my wifes Seal Point Persian's front leg for a small growth. Dr. Arnold charged 50 bucks for a diagnosis and less than 300 for the surgery to remove it.( the growth not the leg as he said the leg would be ok)
It pays to get a second opinion.

Pet's are expensive when they get sick. Take it to the vet, it's the right thing to do.

If you haven't the money you should probably rethink about having a pet if you cannot properly care for it when it becomes seriously ill & needs a vet.

That same Seal Point opened up my Maltese's left eye when it was just a pup and I had to take her to a special surgeon in Charlotte for micro surgery to save the eye. I also have two goldens, here is a picture of my chief of security. It takes two trips in the Suburban to haul all of them in for their shots every year.

wrapped the leg up, vet said it should heal itself naturally and after about 3weeks he should be ok.

Just a green-stem fracture. Thank god.

thanks for everyone's advice; even the sarcasm. any kind of humor or smile is what i need right now.

Glad to hear the cat'll be ok. Not my pet of choice, but a pet of any kind is a close friend.

If he gets worse, I will purchase him for the local Chinese restaurant.

HOLY COW! You could give him away as a CP Karma...just a thought, feel free to claim it as your own.

    aaharvel,

I'm glad to hear the cat will be okay but I do have to agree with what cfrizz says; all pets deserve to be taken care of. I also agree with Jesse about talking to the vet regarding payments should something else need to be done for him.

For future reference, if watching Animal Planet has taught me anything it's that the SPCA can arrange free vet care for pets.

Beautiful Dog! Lets see pictures of the rest! When I had my 2 cat's I had 11lbs in one carrier & 14lbs in the other! Needless to say, I hopped into a cab when it was time to get them their shots!!!

Well i'm glad to hear the kitty is ok, My mom is a big cat lover and has spent countless dollars on vet bills in the past for her pets.. she now has 2 cats one of which i gave her about 12 years ago, a kitten from our cat we had..

I certainly don't think its appropriate to mention in a thread like this.. that if you can't afford vet bills you shouldn't have a pet.

People who don't have extra hundreds laying around deserve to have a pet for companionship or what ever reason just like the next person. :) Just gotta have a fund saved for such events,

When I can get them all to sit still I plan to take a "family" shot...but until then here is my baby that I adopted from my daughter who is now working in NYC.
The pets are all that my wife and I have now that we are empty nesters.
